clutch vrs

Featured Replies

is it a viable diy job for basic skilled diy er ????? eg managed front strut removal and stripping replacement ,service, brake discs etc...tempted but dont want to foul it up

I'd just get it done properly for piece of mind if you've neve done one before.

haynes manual will give you a good idea on the job if you have one

I've done mine and also had the box out to change the clutch slave cylinder, its not an easy job.

Need to lower the front cross member otherwise its virtually impossible to get the gearbox in and out, the gearbox is very heavy as well so I supported the weight with straps from an engine hoist, I think it would take 2 strong people to lift it in/out if you do not have an engine hoist.

As the cross member needs lowering the tracking needs to be checked/adjusted afterwards as well.

p.s. to clarify difficulty level is not high but needing to drop the cross member and the weight of the gearbox makes it harder work than say a small petrol car clutch change.

As above - gearbox is very very heavy! My mate (mechanic) and me fit a clutch to my pd130 and it took two of us to lift it onto a transmission stand and back up again, and that was a struggle. Also had to drop the subframe, airbox etc out. Wasnt too bad, just the weight of the box!
