Car Depreciation

Featured Replies

Can any one tell me what the best guide is for depreciation/secondhand car values.

According to parkers & what car etc my wifes RAV 4 is worth between

The guide used by the trade is Glass', but you have to pay a subscription to use it ...... although you can use it for free if you go to the Vauxhall website and do the used car valuations. Make sure you're sat down though!

Parkers are always a bit optimistic with prices.

Agreed...Parkers tend to get your hopes up, but all dealers I've known and insurance companies have used Glasses guide...probably your most accurate bet. Paul:)

cheers Chris

just done it te figure are

A price is what the buyer is willing to pay and the seller is willing to accept. A "guide" is just that, a guide. Parker's do tend to be optimistic, and don't forget trade-in value is not the same thing as street sale price.

Glass's is only a guide price. The book price against my VW Bora was 3400 with a forecourt price of 4500+, but I had some difficulty getting any more than 2700 against a brand new car. The Dealers were advising that the petrol Bora's were quite hard to shift and this was depressing the prices.

Currently dealers are struggling to get decent money for second hand metal, and this obviously deflates what they'll give you for part ex; finance etc is so easily obtained these days that new cars are really popular, flooding the market and further depleting used values.
