Remap for churning miles.

Featured Replies

Anyone daily drive high miles on a performance remap? I do 150 motorway miles per day, at 70mph. I do give it some once warm before joining the mway, but only briefly.

Just worried I may end up with higher wear, or the emissions system getting clogged up if there is extra soot.

Like the idea of 200 horses and the possibility of a bit better economy if I stay at 70.

Personally Id drop Shark Performance a call (01623 33 22 33) and discuss whats possible.

Running a remap will increase wear and put some additional strain on the drivetrain imo but the important thing is selecting a tuner that knows what the safe limits are, doesnt disable any factory safety/failsafe functions within the ECU and just generally understands what they are doing at a very deep level.

Ive done 6,000 miles during 5 weeks in mine with a Shark Performance stage 1 remap on my 1.8tsi. The trip conditions couldnt have been harsher ie 43 degees external temps, over 300kg of additional camping kit onboard, upto 13 hours driving per day... and not a single issue. It felt totally bulletproof and gave me better than factory mpg! :)

Depends who has done the map. If its a generic off the shelf map then yes i would agree, I have had mine custom mapped, and from dyno's and logs, we could see the stock map had a bit of a turbo spike and was fuelling slightly incorrectly

The chap i dealt with has managed to put a bit more power in to help mpg, evened out the injection quantities, and removed all spikes from the turbos job sheet. Also increased boost pressure by 0.4 psi.

The result is less soot and smoke as the boost air to fuel ratio is now spot on, and we have more power of course, but this is without spikes so the turbo is working well within its safety parameters. He also moved the peak torque figures further up the rev range to save the clutch and flywheel.

Left in its original state, the spikes would have blown the turbo over time, now mapped she is cleaner, smoother, faster and the turbo is totally safe because of the gradual way in which its asked to do its job. original torque peak 1400 rpm, now the peak is around 2400rpm or so and holds fairly steady to 4750 rpm.

overall improvement 25 bhp and 45 ftlbs

Lofty, i have a customer with an Octavia ALH that has 280000 on it and still going strong :) The 90bhp engines go forever...

Mansfield.

I wasn't totally convinced by anyone local, though there is now Gwent Tuning in Newport who can install the APR remap (which is another good "safe" one)

I do 500 miles a week - had a Stage 1 remap on my 2010 vrs diesel by Shark in Mansfield four/five weeks ago.

Nothing but praise from me - I live just outside Cardiff and the trip to Mansfield was well worth it. Could have stayed local but you get what you pay for.
