2010octy tfsi or tsi?

Featured Replies

Guys looking at trading in my old Vectra turbo for a 2010 Vrs. The car advert states its a tfsi engine, when did they change to tsi or vice versa? I'm obviously new to the skoda site so please be nice ha..

What economy should I be looking at from the 2.0T when driven normally? Book states around 38mpg, is this achievable?

Any real issues I should be looking at, the car is about 4 hrs away so cannot nip over to have a look at it but its in immaculate condition from the pictures, plus it's very low miles..

Any advice would be brilliant guys..

Cheers

should be a TSI (although lots of literature will still say TFSI) the TSI engine looks like this, note the location of the dipstick:

And it says "TSI".

Ha excellent guys, much appreciated! So is the tfsi the old or new engine? Daft Q's but tempted alot by this car so need to do my homework quickly before it goes!

Re the MPG, factory figures better with this engine or the TSi and are the book figures accurate if your driving normally with the kids?

Seeing as I'm doing my best to seem daft, what power does this engine map to is its tfsi or tsi?

Thanks again guys.. ;-)

The TFSI is the older engine,a 2010 car will have the TSI engine. ;)

We've got a vRS estate with the 2.0 TSI engine. Typically see around 35mpg on a ten mile commute in light traffic, and have seen 40mpg on a 170 mile trip on the motorway with the cruise set to 70mph

Book figures are pretty acurate. Check my build thread in my sig for what you can do with them

I get between 20mpg avg (spirited driving over B road twisties to/from work) to 36mpg avg driving like miss daisy with the missus in the car and a boot full of luggage.

Just for a laugh I have had the maxidot on instantaneous mpg while booting it in S mode up hill...and I get 5mpg and a face full of grin

37mpg is easily achievable on a longer cruise, I've got over 40 a few times between Cardiff and Heathrow, Cruise set to 70 and nothing too silly off the slip roads and RABs. Mind you, I've had high 30's and got to within 10 miles of my house in a 130 odd mile journey and lost the willpower to keep it steady and seen it drop by 3-4 mpg average in no time at all. RABs on dualies are your worst economy driving nightmare

So true :)

Thanks very much guys for the info, really appreciated!

The car I'm looking at is an April '10 car with 5k on the clock, yes you read that right haha. It's a car from the isle of Mann and verified with skoda service history to prove milage, the condition is out of this world TBH but you would expect that with 5k miles on it...

Price, 11.5k and I think this represents pretty good value, opinion?

Once again, much appreciated guys..

Jesus that is good!

My June 2010 registered car has now got nearly 38k on it :( but it still all looks pretty fresh... but then I'm out detailing it in all weathers including a full leather deep clean and refresh every month on the seats!

Is your potential buy worth 11.5k? Probably, I was offered £10.5k trade in on mine recently (didnt bother changing in the end) but I have the Columbus Sat Nav, Convenience Pack , leather heated seats, premium bluetooth, rear tints and rear park assist all fitted at factory...what options does it have?

My Nov 2012 one already has over 4k

Cheers for the reply Pablo.

Options wise, honestly I'm not sure yet what I'm looking for! It does have parking sensors, head unit with mp3, SD slot etc

As said from the photos it looks as new, not a blemish!

In the space of 24hrs of reading I've had my head turned by the diesel mpg figures, so started looking around and found a lovely 10 plate in Aberdeen skoda with 20k on the clock for £12499 so now thinking about this instead as it will have the extendable skoda warranty option which I would want with the diesel..

Head minced haha

LOL easy done. Personally for me i'm not overly worried about mpg or resale figures and I simply prefer driving a petrol so it would be a no choice. However if you are seriously taking MPG into consideration the TDi will return you MUCH better figures that is no doubt, and in reality it is more than ample for everday road usage, and with a cheeky remap it will be pretty rapid.

Ive just done a back of the fag packet calculation for my rough annual mileage and current fuel costs comparing my vRS mpg with an "average" 2.0TDi vRS and it comes up as about £500 more in fuel costs (per year) for mine than the diesel. So the £1k difference in price for the diesel would pay for 2 years fuel for the petrol..and you've got 15,000 miles less on the clock so (probably) much less expense over the next 3 years.... I know where I would be heading :)

What mileage you doing bud? We now do about 15k so right on the cusp of the petrol or diesel argument..ha!

I just spoke to Aberdeen Skoda about what is covered in the warranty, specifically asked about DPF and they say its not covered..I find this VERY odd to say the least, does this seem right?

I see what you're saying mate, I have had a 2.0t for last 7 years so used to the fuel usage, but the diesel is tempting due to being a Skoda approved car..!

Ok confirmed the DPF is covered in the Skoda extended warranty, so peace of mind with that. I'm stuck in a real quandary, head is saying diesel for the economy, heart is saying petrol as its better to drive and very tuneable in the long term..

Still confused :-D

12k per annum max for me, of which 6k (ish) is business miles. So for me 6k p.a personal miles is a no brainer for which fuel :)

I know a lot of people like diesel but if you are used to a forced petrol you may find the diesel rather, um, different to drive. I had a brief (10 months) flirt with a VAG 2.0 TDi (the 140 lump) and while it was a good enough drive I found it just bland compared to giving bootfuls to a turbocharged petrol.

And I have heard/read some horror stories about the cost of the DPF replacement....and 5k mileage it's barely run in!

But dont let me sway you ;)

5k miles is on the petrol vRS, and I'm more than tempted due to this!

My mileage is all personal and we live in the sticks, hence why I'm getting turned by the diesel. I've lived with 30mpg for the last 6-7 yrs so the mpg of the petrol isn't putting me off, just the economy of the diesel turning my head, or maybe it's called old age @33!

If you get the diesel because of the economy alone I would put a tenner on within a few months you wishing you'd got the petrol ;) (unless petrol rockets to £10 a gallon)

Just been reading your stage 2 thread so you might be right! Haha..

I've had a CDTi Vectra when they first came out and remapped it, 200bhp and a whack of torque made it good fun, but chopped it in for petrol as blew the turbo etc..

The diesel will be good to drive, plus 2 small kids means I'm rarely in the car myself to push anything near the limit..getting old and boring I think! Ha
