My Octavia TDI has developed an audible whine coming from the gearbox/transmission.

I only noticed the noise from about 12,000 miles (currently 15,000 miles).

It is noticable in all gears but especially in fourth.

It occurs when there is no load on the engine, somewhere between overrun and very slight power.

It's difficult to say but I think it's getting louder.

My dealer says that there is no information on the Skoda database concerning gearbox whines and he thinks that it may be within normal limits.

Does anyone have any knowledge?

We've got a similar problem on our Fabia TDi, along with a clunk when changing gear at times (posted a while back). Again the dealer has checked it out and, whilst acknowledging there is a noise is reluctant to take it out and have a look (understandable I guess). I'm waiting to see if it develops further so let me know what you find out.

Someone on here (check out previous post) reckoned it may be a driveshaft that he'd managed to have replced under warranty but I've not pursued that one yet).

I have a whining noise in my car as well - i just put it down to being the other half tho
