Volvo V50 T5

Thanks guys for the thoughts/opinions on this, slight update though...

The good wife has now decided that she doesn't like the Volvo, mainly appearance and doesn't feel we need an estate...wish I'd known that earlier!

Anyways, I'm now looking at something different altogether. Begins with M, is 4 wheel drive and 0-60 in 6(ish)secs! Can you guess what it is?!

Mitsubishi Gallant!

2000_Mitsubishi_Galant_VR-4_-_UK_version_001_1188.jpg

Engine Size 2498 cc

Cylinders 6

0-60 mph 5.9 secs

Top Speed 150 mph

Power Output 280 bhp

Valves 24

Torque 267 lb-ft

That's a shame as I think the Volvo is a real bargain for what offers. :) Threads like this always make me so glad my Mrs is into our cars almost as much as I am! :)

Good shout skinnyman :)

But no, it's actually one of these:

Yeti man I wish my missus was a petrol head! I agree, the Volvo offers a lot and is great value for money, the one I posted in my initial thread looks very good too...

So, what do we think to the 6 MPS?

Prefer the Volvo myself, and then the Galant. The Legnam (?) version is awesome IMO too!

There's just something about the sport-y additions to the 6 not sitting that well, IMO of course.

That's a horrible piece of road to drive down!

Aww! I thought I was going to be spot on with that guess. I've considered the MPS before but never taken the plunge as I needed the boot space of the Octavia for the kids & their clobber. It's on my list of cars I'd like to own though.

So I ended up buying this:

Picking it up Thursday :) It's an epic car for £6k, really can't fault it.

Will be sad to see this go though:

£13.5k and it's yours!

I 'WILL' be back in a Skoda Octavia vRS petrol (Mk3) at some point in the future that's for sure...Still get to see my old girl quite a bit anyway as the Father in Law has her:

But for now I will say thank you for your help and see you on here in a while :)

Watch the rear wheel arches, a known area for very premature rust!

Will do :) In fairness mine are carpeted and look brand new, it's been so well cared for by it's one previous owner from new!

Funnily enough I actually put previous RK's name into google, found his tel number and gave him a call (amazing what you can find out on the tinterweb)!

As I bought from a dealer I was just intrigued to see if it was all good. He was so chuffed I called, saying how much he loved the car and made me promise I would love it too!! Only reason he sold was because a 6 MPS came into the Mazda garage whilst he was there getting his serviced. It had 13k miles with Sat Nav so he part exed his (now mine) and threw some £££ their way as he never wants to own another car so jumped at the opportunity to get a low miler (even though mines only on 42k!)

So I'm pretty chuffed, it's so nice to own a car that's been cherished from day 1 and I can happily continue that.

Hi Kit,

Yes, as Yetiman says (thanks mate) it's a Mazda 6 MPS. It was 2 months ago I posted that link so has been taken off the site now!

A quick search on the web will show you all the specs and that it's a great car! I love it's Q car status, 0-60 in circa 6secs, lots of equipment like Bose, cruise, Xenons etc. It's so comfortable and refined too. Mine's the lower tax bracket so same(ish) price as the vRS :D Can easily be had for £5-6k, I paid a little more but got a 12 month Mazda warranty, FMSH, one owner, new Bridgestones & disc/pads all round, big service just compete, 12 months tax & mot so hopefully I won't need to spend anything for some time, apart from mods....!

Only downs for me are it's a saloon, at some point with growing family, dogs and camping holidays etc a hatch or estate is on the cards, I'd love a 335 touring but will probably be a vRS, more than adequate :)

The majority are yes, but there are a few earlier ones on 55 & 06 plates that were registered before the tax cut off date of 23/03/2006, so mine is an 06' and registered mid March so £280 instead of £475 :D

Not too far off the vRS...definitely nicer than my Mk 1 Octy, ie more refined, faster, more toys etc but I'm keen to see what a 2011 vRS is like! I'm debating a remap and some other bits to take the MPS to 300+ bhp :D It is a little boring to look at though, especially after my ///M Coup, but such is life!

Here's the AE review:
