I have wired my own Skoda Fabia for a sub, but found it difficult as I could not find many tutorials. After a few hours however, I had managed to get it all wired up (with the help of my boyfriend). So I decided to help others who want to wire one up and show them how I did it. This is my tutorial on my 2002 Skoda Fabia Classic 1.4.

All the prices are approximate and how much I paid for the parts, You can google them online to find the best deal.

1) Buy all the parts you need:

• Wiring Kit (Containing a power lead, remote wire, phono lead, ground wire & also connector wires for the sub to the amp.)
  
• A subwoofer. Single or double will depend on what amp you will need. e.g. 1000W sub will need a 1000W amp preferably to get the full potentail out of the sub. However you can have a smaller amp, it just wont be as powerful.
  
• Tools: Screwdrivers, crimpers for wiring,
  
• Fuse holder (£9.99) and fuse (£3.99) for the battery cable
  

2) Getting started:

A helping hand is always going to make the job quicker, I had two people helping me and it took about 4 hours (due to no tutorials so having to work everything out ourselves). So plan your day so thats it's free. A lot of panels need to be removed, so make space so you can put them out of the way while you work.

Battery Fuse

Firstly, you are going to need a fuse for the Sub. Because if something goes wrong, its better to blow a fuse than damage your car battery.

I used a Autoleads fuse holder as it's strong and waterproof and then used an Autoleads fuse. Unscrew the top of the holder and pop in the fuse, then just rescrew the top and your fuse is almost ready.

Now you need the power cabe off your wiring kit. You are going to need to cut the power cable near its end, crimp the wire and then connect to to the fuse. Leave enough space to the fuse is not blocking you from covering up your battery.Do the same for the other end so that the fuse is now secure and connected to the power cable.

Do not connect the power cable to the battery just yet! You don't want to get zapped so leave this as the last thing you do once wired up your sub. Now you need to find a gap to feed the wire through to get to the boot. After having a good look I spotted a small hole which leads near the glove box. Feed the end of the power cable (the end not with the fuse near it) through here.

Stereo Wiring

Now you need to get the wiring of the stereo ready. You will need the remote wire (usually very small and coloured blue) and the Phono Cable (usually red and black, looks like a double Aux lead).

Now, pull out your stereo unit from the center console, usually you need some metal keys to do this, which are about £3/4! I find it easier though if you just reomove the center console vents (above the stereo) using a butter knife wrapped in a cloth. Once this is removed you can push the unit out from behind, much easier!

Once this is done you will need to plug in your Phono and remote wires. This will vary depending on your stereo, so make sure you look up where they go on your head unit.

It's been six months! Any plans on continuing this totorial? I'm thinking about installing an active subwoofer under passenger seat, and could really need help e.g. good ideas on how to hide wiring etc.
