Sick of these coilovers!

Featured Replies

I have some FK coilovers, the £200 ones. Bought them last July time and they've been fitted for around 8,000 miles. Changed the top mount, top mount bearing, bumps stops when the coilovers were fitted as it made sense!

Anyway they have been fine apart from really crashy & bumpy! But a few weeks ago the passenger side front started squeaking over the slightest of bumps, it goes away when it's wet though! And now the drivers side seems to knock now and again.

Any ideas?

For anyone thinking of buying them....DON'T they're ****!

A spray of lube around the top mount and helper spring.

If buying coil overs buy eibach pro street..... They are top quality!

Will try that thanks, had thought about some lube but didnt want to cover up a sound if there was an issue.

Not buying new ones yet, cannot believe how **** these are lol. May look into some new ones in a couple of months :)

**** them off and buy something decent lol :p

The problem is you paid a bargain basement price, for cheap coilovers. To get quality you need to be looking at the likes of KW or Eibach, and spending upwards of £700 for a decent set. I had KW V2's on my old MK1 vRS and never had any problems with handling or squeaks in 50K miles before I sold it. The KWs cost just short of £1K but the quality was superb.

I've had coilovers on most of my cars and now I won't have any. Look amazing but the drive is shocking. Uncomfortable and noisy and too problematic for daily use :(

Like anything, you get what you pay for.

And suspension should be the last thing you skimp on as its a pain in the arse to fit, and problematic units can have a knock on effect to so many other parts.

I was desperate for coilovers at the time, the 4x4 look was depressing haha! I wasn't expecting anything top quality but didn't expect them to be this bad. I don't fancy paying near a grand for coilies tbh, I could go on a 2 week holiday for that. Not to mention It's going into the body shop on Monday and I want to give it a service too :)

I'm thinking about shocks & springs to be honest - is there a kit that drops the Fabia 40-50 mm?

I had shocks and springs on my old fiestas and the ride / handling was superb! The area I live in isn't really suitable for coilovers anyway to be honest.

I agree with the statement "you get what you pay for" but, I have some KW V1s, and they squeak all the time. Any little thing, even along a smooth road they squeak. It's annoying as ****....

Hmm, my old V1's were great, never had an issue!

The AP's I had before that knocked but it was the spring coils hitting together - this was sorted by putting rubber tubing on them.

As for the squeaking - dry bushes somewhere?

I paid £180 for my JOMs and to be honest I can't fault them, done approx 5000 miles on them too. I get the dry bushes squeaking so I just keep lubing them. Sod paying nearly a grand on some coilovers I'd want the rest of the car too!!

Dry bushes it may be, it's still squeaking like a good'un! Need to have a proper look at it really.

I wanted JOMs but everywhere was out of stock when I was looking to buy :(

I just spray everything with wd40 every time it starts

Newbies after an answer dont stand a chance!

2p.

^^ Well done.

You sure its not just sat on the bump stops at the front dan?

I had the same a while ago with my kw's. Been fine since trimming the bump stops a little.

Good point I had that causing the osf spring to ping when turned but I bet it's a dry bush

I dont think it is, the sqeaking only came about a couple of weeks ago coincidently after id had the car in the air to remove wheel spacers.

which bushes do you lube mate?

Spray the anti-roll bar D bushes and the lower arm bushes. Always cures mine for quite a while. I think it's because the bushes are in a different position because it's lowered that they do it

I have the kw shock and spring set. Only drops it by 25mm but handles very well. No squeaks at all :)

I will give that a go thanks mate, got 2 weeks off after Sunday so loads of time! :)

Yours felt like a great ride when you took me out in it mate! must have been a combination of the shock & springs, bushes, strut brace and RARB.

I binned my JOM's for a set of AP's and the car's a joy to drive again.
