What's this and why is this? (Fabia VRS)

Featured Replies

Hey Folks

I've recently parted with my PD100 Elegance (owned for four years) and have just bought a VRS. I've a few questions to fellow owners so hoping you can advise.

Front Fogs

If you look at the pictures attached of my front fogs, the grill either side is different. One is solid, one has gaps. Is there a reason or has one been replaced, with the wrong part?

Ash Tray

What is that circular disc on top of the ash tray? Can't find anything about it!

Lock Rod

Have only noticed (2 weeks in) that there is a plastic trim missing around the door lock rod on the rear O/S door. Anyone know if they're obtainable from Skoda. I guess the easiest thing to do is ring and attempt to describe.

Thanks!

The slats in the fog surround are air vents for the intercooler.

The surround for the lock pin could probably be obtained from a scrap yard :)

The holes in the drivers side fog lights os to allow air to the intercooler. Not sure on the on the other stuff

The gaps by the fog is on the drivers side is to vent air to the side mount intercooler. Edit: beaten twice (damn)

Havnt got a clue what that circle is.

I would try ebay for a fabia breaking to get the door lock part first.

Ah that makes sense, having seen bumper off pictures! Thanks for the prompt replies.

So the circular thing isn't standard then. I though it might be magnetic but it's not...

Is it extra grippy for a phone or something?

  • Author

It's flat, smooth and shiny. So I don't think it grips anything. Really baffling me. It's firmly attached, not a sticky pad job or anything similar

What on the inner of the flap are there screws holding it on?

as said one fog surround only holds temp sensor believe its passenger side? other side lets air flow through for inter cooler

ash tray ... its a stick on disc so you can stick a sat nav their instead of the wind screen

you can get the little trim from around the lock pin i had to get both for my rear doors after destroying them removing door cards .... seem to think they were around the £4 -5 mark for 2 of each delivered from rainworth skoda

No screws either, it must be stuck with adhesive but damn good stuff. Like I say, there's no play in it suggesting it'd be difficult to prise off. I gather it must be after market then if no one else has it? It's not in the way, just intrigued as to its purpose

its smooth so you can stick stuff like sat navs to it instead of to your windows

The smooth circle is for a sucker-ed phone/sat nav mount. One came with my phone mount. It's backed with 3m tape so you could take a heat-gun or hair dryer to it and prize it off.

Holmesie, I bet you're right!! I wouldn't want to be looking down every 5 seconds though... That's answered that then!

Rainworth Skoda it is. I had intentions of calling them, their parts manager is unbeatable for contact/prices. I need a few small things like replacement washer jets so I may as well get from a dealer if I can do.

Thanks all

i think the idea is so you dont leave the marks on the window ive normally seen them stuck to the top of dash boards but each to their own ...

the lad i normally speak to at rainworth is called jonathan and he is pretty good seems to do all he can to help... i keep going back to get silly little bits like them .... they are pretty thin and easily broken i destroyed both lock pin guides / surrounds trying to seal the rear doors

Yeah It's Jonathan I have dealt with in the past. Might have a go at removing it with a heat gun when I change the badges on the car. Cheers :)

My rear doors dont have locking pins, so I would assume somebody wanted to fit some, but used the wrong size drill bit. Fabia VRS mk1 also :)

Yoda, is that you ?

As said, sat-nav base disc, although don't like the idea of taking eyes off road to study sat-nav maps.

Solvent of some kind would remove it, if you wanted to, then re-apply on top of facia dash-board instead, for a sat-nav.

I stuck a spare rear tail-gate 'SKODA' badge on top of my plastic disc when not in use, with those double-sided sticky (license disc) silicone pads.

early vrs had rear door pins newer ones didnt

The black disc looks like something for a Tomtom or phone holder to fit to. The suction type ones!

Edit: Should have read all of this then i would see it has already been answered lol. :@

You learn something every day!

Theres lots of changes

The dash is different

Gear ratios are different

Different engine codes

Different rear lights

Rear lock pins

Front grille differs

Traction control light differs

Different size vrs rear badges

Not all happened at the same time so might be a bit of miss and match

I was aware of the gear ratios, engine code, lights and badges but not of the dash, grill, lock pins and traction light. Interesting.

In addition to what Jase said

Some later ones have a third headrest in the rear and a 3 point seat belt to go with it.

(my 54 reg didn't have that , just a lap restraint in the middle and no head rest.)

Also earlier cars have a plastic cover to hide/protect the battery, later ones don't

(Much to their owners disgust.. lol)

Also to add some had colour coded door handles.

Mine is a 55 plate and I had the battery cover. No rear lock pins, a centre 3 point seat belt, but no middle headrest! And no colour coded door handles :(
