Tyres for a FL vRS

Featured Replies

SWMBO has just bought herself a 2 year old vRS & it will need new tyres soonish.

Usual 225 / 18 / 40 Conti Sport Contacts, a bit noisy as expected & not our 1st preference as replacements.

Any thoughts re options?

Any advice will be considered seriously.

TIA, David C.

Uniroyal rainsport 2's

Falken 914

All depends on budget though

Just put michelin ps3's on mine & can't fault them. Plus we have them on the rrv's at work which is a good enough recommendation for me.

Falken FK452's

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's

Replaced mine with Goodyear Eagle F1 ASSYMETRIC 2 , glad i did, excellent tyres.

Falken FK452's

I think you will struggle to get Falken 452s anymore, they have been replaced with FK453's.

I really rated the 452's on my BMW but people on here seem to rate them less highly.

If it helps, the most recent tyre test in evo had the Pirelli P Zero top with the Goodyear F1 Assymetric 2 in second.

The Conti's on our vRS will need replaced soon and I'll go for one of those two.

About to replace mine with Michelin PS3's. To be honest, I thought the Conti's were pretty good ,but Costco makes buying Michelins pretty economical when they do their 20% off when you buy 4 deals.....like I did!

I've just done all the research and this morning had 2 new tyres fitted. I went for Michelin Pilot Sport 3 and came across their £50 fuel voucher. (Minimum 2 tyres over 17") Mine effectively came in at £91.50 each so cheaper than Camskill/Blackcircles. There's a search facility for participating dealers.

I got 4 fitted only a couple of months ago.

Was given the choice between 452s and 453s and picked the former as had them on my Beemer too.

Thanks to you all for some very useful advice.

If she decides that this car is a "keeper" then we might well go for the Michelins, from past experience they usually

give good mileage.

If it's only going to be around for a year or so, maybe Uniroyals or Avons would be a better choice.

We don't really want to skimp on tyres, just trying to get to get some that are suited to the car at a

sensible price!

Thanks again, Briskodians!

Get from camskill and you get the £50 voucher.

had 452's on my bmw too, great tyres absolutely loved them.

I can't really contribute to this thread because you're opening post didn't "compute" with me :)

I replaced my quiet and grippy Conti SC2's, fitted at the factory, at 30k miles with some Conti SC5's.

However as you don't seem to have had the same excellent service from the Conti tyres I had then my recommendation won't go very far.

Asymetric 2's

Another vote for the Assymetric 2s. I have them all round on my vRS and will replace them with the same when they need replacing. Awesome grip in the dry, fantastic in the wet.

And another for Goodyear Eagle F1 ASSYMETRIC 2's

me too .... Goodyear Eagle F1 ASSYMETRIC 2

Assymetric 2 - quite simply a brilliant all-rounder!!

Gy Eagle f1 as2. Tried dunlops, mich exalto/ps2/3, Conti spcont3 . Goodyear best all rounders.

I've used Conti SC2's, all in the same 225-40-18 size on my current V6 Mondeo, my old Octy 2 vRS & my current Superb & I've found that they do

grip well in the wet, are noisy on most UK road surfaces, (but quiet on close-grained German tarmac), but not the best tyre in terms of mileage.

The old vRS has gone, sitting on a new set of Nexen 6000's which will probably last it's new owner for while...., the Mondy is on Sempro's, mostly 'cos it only does about 3/4K miles PA. Like the Nexens they seem to cope well with wet weather & snow , & are much quieter than the Contis.

Hatchbacks & Estate Cars are always liable to generate more audible noise than saloons, (& here the Superb should be considered a saloon) so perhaps I'm being a little harsh, but SWMBO's vRS is, as always going to allow tyre noise into the cabin, so any replacement tyres should, ideally, be a little quiter.

As it happens, it has been fitted with a set of Michelin PS3's this afternoon ( at a somewhat inflated price, another tale not to be told here, but I know where not to shop in future...........) & they are quieter. With the weather that we are likely to experience this weekend, we might find out just what they are like in snow & ice!

Since the Superb has only covered 6K miles so far, I won't be tyre shopping for a while but I'll repeat my earlier thanks to all those persons who

have taken the trouble to proffer help & advice.

I used to swear by eagle F1s on earlier cars - not had them on current or last VRS because I've been scared of the potential cost/mileage issues. Also my last VRS came shod with Bridgestone potenza reo40s which I found very good so, since they (and later the s001s) were much cheaper I always went for them where possible.

Mcurrent VRS came with Dunlop rubbish on the front and I found them to be terrible. Fortunately for me the rear tyres were on 3mm and when I pointed this out to the dealer they eventually agreed to replace them - fallen 452s on the back which have been very good so far and indeed are still on there.

I can't speak for other tyres on the VRS - apart from when my last one was at the dealers I foolishly let then put 'cequivalent' pirellis on as they had no bridgestones and could do the pirellis at a decent price. I ended up with p6000s on the front which were almost as bad as the dunk ops which this one came with! I'd actually used these before - but not on anything above 120bhp......
