  • Well someone is taking the pith there, & that is sad to see. Good old panel beating required on the door & a colour match, unless i am missing something obvious. Has the side already been re

  • She'll learn her lesson from this and just p1s5 off next time

  • I'd imagine there would be an equal number of complaints if she's insisted they use some back street garage for a fraction of that and the job was crap.

Whether the lady accepted the blame or not, a whether this is cash or insurance, this is a perfect example of what is wrong with the world and why insurance premium are rocketing. The dealer is taking the P big style and anyone with half an once on conscious would have said so. Sure you can expect the car to be put back to a condition it was in before the dunt but why get a complete new side on an old bus!

You should be grateful she was honest enough to admit this and be honest enough to accept a proportionate repair

Seb,

has your son got Cash in hand now,?

because i can imagine the Lady or some family/friend saying, WTF, no way.

(then them saying, he's Insured, which is true,

and you are actually required to notify your insurer, claim or no claim.

I know we do not do this and its going to be poo pooed.)

We all take a pride in our cars, I too would want it to be put right, especially if the damage wasn't my fault.

But I also take umbrage at paying over the odds when it is easily avoided.

If she is insistent it goes through the main dealer then fair enough. I wasn't there and didn't witness her attitude but based on the information provided I'd be keen to reward her honesty and try to save her a few quid.

A new side , one door and re spray side to match ? What should he have done ? Get a door from scrappy and hand painted it ? Not his blame the pricing structure of dealers ? Or maybe it is ? Old bus maybe but loved :)

She was very pleasant and so was my son, he's already contacted her to apologise for the cost and she was adamant its not an issue, she didn't want to claim as this could effect her work ? So we didn't ask further to this , son will order flowers as a thank you

Granted old bus he loved, granted pride and joy, granted she was at fault, granted should be put back in a condition no worse than before the accident but dealers price is a complete p!as take.

If the boot was on the other foot and you or your Son had caused this damage would you have happily accepted such a quote for this damage on a car of this age???

OK, she offered but at least she was honest enough to own up to the damage and probably accepted the first quote out of acute embarrassment. Personally I would cut her some slack and offer the option to find a cheaper quote that is acceptable to both.

My last word on the subject.

She should have gone through her own insurance I'm sure that have said WTF at least for that.

I did get the whole side of the car sprayed when a lorry put a long scrape down the door. It still wasn't nearly as much as that.

Well, the only time I've seen a quote like that for paint (materials) before, the colour in question was "Top Secret Gold", and you can't buy that from anyone except Top Secret themselves.

Fair do's to her personally.

There could be 101 reasons for paying cash and wanting no rebuke (hence Seat dealer insistence) - excessive excess on a company policy (some are £1k+), car not supposed to be used for personal, on a warning, etc...

Customer of Seat or works there?? All conjecture, all guesswork.

Car being repaired properly at no expense to your lad instead of being written off - isn't that what we'd all want if its not our fault?

Thank you phil for grasping the nettle , he was so down hearted and she said dont worry take too seat and I will sort it , she was absolutely amazing what can I say, would I do similar ? I would have hoped so :) , anyway please lock any moderator

I'm surprised with the responses here. Yes it is a pricey quote, but the lady sounds to be insistent. If she wants to pay it is her prerogative.

That looks like a very hard impact! Yes the car is a 54 plate Seat, but it wasn't his son's fault, why should they insist a sub-standard repair? There could be reasons why the lady doesn't want to go through insurance- we don't know?

I don't see any ripping off personally- which is a bit hard to accuse of, seeing as though none of us were there.

I'm glad there are still honest people out there who admit liability and resolve issues.

I think she may think twice about it next time.

Mate of mine owns a bodyshop in Glasgow Touch ups, he looked at your pics, did say it needs a new door but in total it would be 450-500 max to fix it.

Stop fleecing an old lady and get some other quotes.

That quote is quite high but has anyone considered that this woman seems to have enough money not to care about it and that to her it seems that its no big deal?

She fessed up, good on her. She wants it put right properly, good on her.

Seat are taking the **** though.

We can all say " I've got a mate" but get this SHE WANTED SEAT DEALERS TO FRIGGIN DO THE WORK ! , I don't know why she just bloody did, oh I will drive up to Scotland and get your mate to do it for 450-500 with no warranty on the work and seals will be leaking rain and door will rust and paint won't match oh and door won't close properly , what then ? Oh take it to seat and get proper job eh :o for heavens sake, rant over but there will be another post saying" ripping off oldies or do the right thing !

Oh thanx let there be light :)

Once they had that quote they could have held the OP to ransom - 'find a cheaper quote or we let it go to insurance and your car gets written off'.

This is probably the best outcome of the OP. Theres no insurance claim and the car is restored to a high standard.

Yes, it's extortionate, but she's happy to pay.

It does seem like a heap load of cash to fix it imo, but as Seb said she's requested it be done at a Seat dealer and she's happy to pay that....so whats the problem?

Im sure if anyone else on here had their car bumped, they'd rather it was fixed at an approved dealer or repairer and not done at a shoddy back street place.

Maybe time to lock this Seb cos i can see it going a bit pete tong lol ;-)
