High Mileage Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

Hello

as some of my know im on the hunt for a Mk1 Octavia vRS, I found a few i like and im planning on taking a visit to see them obviously.

My problem is all the ones im finding are between 97k-150k???

Is there anything i should be worried about at that sort of mileage, i have a friend who tells me the pick up pipe has a tendency to clog up, coil packs for going, N75 valve's, MAF's, sometimes the occasional k03s failure (RARE)...

Im a tad worried about those problems, as im planning on remapping and adding the basic bolt on's for the meantime then i wil be adding a G2871 or a Gt28RS turbo in the later, im not wanting to buy a MK1 occy of that mileage if im going to open a can of worms adding modifications!

Obviously if i go ahead with this i will be going through the service history with a magnifying glass!

Whats your people's view on this?

Cheers

Adrian

Older car higher miles, just plan and budget for problems. You'll have wear and tear to deal with as well as model specific issues.

If your going down the tuning route then surely it'd be worth spending a little more on one with a little less miles on it.

Hope this helps. I got mine on a 51 plate with 101k on the clock and done 2k in the past 7 weeks and all is perfect. Well apart from a wheel bearing thats started to go.

Bought my 54 plate a couple of years ago with 112k on the clock, the only faults it has had is the wishbone bushes, centre exhaust mount, and a seized caliper, it's now passed 130k and never misses a beat, best car I have ever owned.

Thanks guys!

Think i may hold off till i can afford a slightly lower mileage vRS....

The weak point for them is the rods at high boost right?

If its been maintained properly then the miles shouldn't be too big of a deal really. As said above there's some bloody good cars about with 100k+ on them.

A bad car is a bad car whether it's done 50k or 150k.

Personally if I was gonna big turbo it I'd be having an engine rebuild anyway regardless of mileage, just for peace of mind.

Oh and the rear wiper motor was buggered! and as spunjedd says, a full rebuild would probably be a good idea. i'm not too sure about the rods but if it is the case then it would deffinately be a good idea to rebuild it.

Ok guys, thanks

Didnt really want to rebuild, gasket changes but not internal parts... My power goals would be around 300 max

I'm pretty sure the std internals are ok for getting up to 300 bhp, but you'll have to factor in things like clutch, brake and possibly suspension upgrades

Yeah.

Suspension, brakes, ARB, bushes are first on my list!

Just wanting to find out really what the limit is, im pretty sure its the torque that will kill the rods..mabye 270ft-lbs?

TBH the std rods might stand up to the power and torque, but is it a gamble you're willing to take? personally if I were building a high power vRS I'd beef up the internals to be safe.
