Front drivers indicator bulb permanently on.

Featured Replies

Driving along the road today, i noticed my bulb out warning light on. When i got home, i tested all the lights to see which bulb was out so i could replace it. I was looking around the car and noticed my front drivers indicator bulb is permanently on and even with the keys out of the ignition it stays on. I tried indicating and the door mirror flashes and the the rear light flashes but the front stays on.

I would understand the bulb warning light being on if the bulb was out, but with it being constantly on is it only on because of the electrical current being senced by the ECU?

Any ideas guys?

Weird lighting effects can be due to a faulty earth in another circuit, the current finding weird and wonderful ways to return if its usual earth is not available.

Possibly be water in the light grounding it to the body?

I think there has been a couple of other forum members with this problem (i remember reading about the same fault) id do a search & see what comes up.

I done a search before typing my post as the other thread a few days ago just gave the same problem but both lights and no-one gave him a deffinative answer, just another user saying it happened to them.

I was wondering if there was something i could do/check myself 1st. Im going to have a look at the earths tomorrow during the daylight. Might remove the fuses to see if it resets aswell.

Thanks for the help.

Im not sure if VW still use a convinence control module or direct PWM feed from the BCM but the CCM always used to suffer from moisture failures.

Have you run a scan through VCDS?

I guess youve locked the doors using the remote fob? Have you tried locked the doors with the good old fashioned key?

Sorry to tell you but the lighting ECU has stressed out, this happened to a friend when he decided to put HID on the foglights as they were always going off due to the cornerlights.

The signal wire for the blinker is always getting/receiving 12v

I was at work tonight for a bit so never ran it through a scan. I tried the key in the door earlier with no success.

What was the repair alberg? How was it fixed?

Mine did exactly the same, same indicator bulb and side. Unfortunately the 09 CCM has failed and will require replacing.

Your bio doesn't say how old your vRS is but mine was 4 months old and it was replaced under warranty.

A nice easy confirmation would be to reach under the dash and unplug it - if the light goes out then it's the CCM

Good luck

Thanks for the info. I will give that a try this morning.

My car is under warranty until November this year. Phone call to dealers this morning I think.

Yup as I mentioned above I concur with xpower!

Golfs leak through the pollen folter and water just sits in the module, dont leave the indicator on though (take the bulb out) as you may find the lamp cooks over time!

I removed the bulb last night and i am leaving it out until the dealer can have a look at it on Monday. Phoned them to book in today.

My main concern was the lack of indicator and with the amount of junctions and roundabouts i have to negotiate every day, i have borrowed my dads car and will be using that over the weekend as they are on holiday.

Will report back on Monday with the outcome.

Thanks for the help.

As predicted, the CCM is needing replaced. They didnt have the part in stock so ordering tomorrow to be fixed on Wednesday.

The good news is I have a Fabia greenline estate while my car patiently waits to be repaired. Poooooowwwwwweeeeeerrrrrr!

Job done and everything working properly. Warranty covered it so no cost. Someone else has phoned them with the same problem today when I was in. Is it that common?

They also cleaned and hoovered the car for too was a bonus.

Maybe a bad batch of CCM's?

What was weird it from day 1 (the showroom) my rear wiper used to have days where it had a mind of its own - just kept coming on without being switched on and wouldn't go off!! Well, until I switched the engine off, and cycled the ignition off and on. I had to unplug the rear motor at one point for a few days as it refused to stop wiping and it was going to wreck the blade.

Since my CCM was replaced no further issues. In a way glad it wasn't just mine though

Problem is back. Less than a week after the repair. Back in tomorrow.

After running every check under the sun they know of, they have found the fault has not cleared and the symptoms persist so have reffered it to Skoda UK to see if there is something else to look at.

New courtesy car this time though. 13-plate Fabia 1.2 SE with 200 miles on it.

Wonder if its within the COMM unit (stalk)?

  • 1 year later...

Has any1 got to the end of this problem I have changed three bcm in four weeks it still stays on

If it is moisture ingress which is damaging the CCM then are they curing the cause rather than just the symptoms?

If the leak remains unfixed then the CCM's will just keep failing surely?
