  • Personally, i don't give a monkeys what it's faster than or if it handles like a shed, as long as i know how to drive it and i enjoy the drive, then that's all that matters to me.

  • Report, ignore, we'll sort! Job done!

  • Aright then, the basic core fact is that everybody races on the roads, it's a bit like fight club, the first rule is you don't talk about it.. Every other thread on here is " ooh look at my big exhaus

I remember a certain European brisky jaunt which involved some 20 plus cars doing insane speeds!!!!! Guess that is ok cos its in Europe tho....

Couldn't have been insane speeds fgs ? They where driving skuds :) now if they where driving dubs :p

No one really races on the roads . . .

Only 'cause there's no champagne to spray around and lots of pretty girls to get friendly with (well, at least not in my neck of the woods) :giggle:

That must make 'Briskoda' look really good, bearing in mind the majority probably would have had website stickers on them

Just seen the thread and it seems like the one who posted about racing on the M40 has edited it but with it being quoted a bit further down, hasn't really deleted it. Also funny how in his mind they were racing but it seems in the mind of the thread starter, they weren't racing because he can't even remember it!! :D

Also, Brimma, it looks like you need to put 'Aha' and not 'Haha' to be down with the kids. ;)

Less fun though :)

So why then post this thread if you enjoy the fun?

Don't even let it get to you. Ignore it.

And can we please stop using the mk1 fabia as a benchmark for racing please lol

Good point, well made, and difficult to argue against

Makes a good discussion though, if nothing else

I've certainly not spotted it in the Citigo, Roomster, Yeti and Superb forums, and I can't recall seeing it on the Octavia 2 forum

Look harder

Not illegal to race on UK roads all the time :) 1:36 is emotional! It isn't real racing on public roads unless you can break 200mph :p

I don't trawl through every single post on the forum, so I'm sure you could flag up the offending post if you've found one

As Richard said. No one really races on the roads, merely tests acceleration with another close by.

I'll remember this next time I get stopped by the Rozza's.

"I wasn't racing officer, merely testing my acceleration with him over there" :D

Actually it is illegal to race on British roads, check the wording of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and 199, and various other Statutes. Your link was in Ireland, which have different Rules.

i think it is still legal to race horse drawn vehicles on the public highway though... that could be an interesting concept, the farmyard cup perhaps?

I thought Ulster was still British Graham.

Different Laws in Ulster. There is also the fact that the Motorcycle Races (and the Ulster Rally) are held over "closed roads" where the Road Traffic Act has been suspended, so speed limits do not apply.

In England Wales and Scotland currently this requires an Act of Parliament to be passed.

In modern times the first to be done was for the Birmingham GP, but since there have also been Acts to allow The Mull Rally and part of a rally in the North East. Two events in England, The Promenade Stages at New Brighton, and the Brighton Speed Tests at Brighton, are run on closed roads without this Act because they are run on roads that although Public Highways are actually "private". similar also occurs on the Epynt Ranges in Breconshirewhere the roads are owned by the MoD.

The current Government are in discussions with the Motor Sport Assoc to alter the Law so that limited "closed road" motorsport might be allowed, and also to allow the Assembly's in Scotland and Wales to take similar responsibilities.

The following is also very important!

That's not really a fair comparison, as it's between two people who know each other and though they are speaking in a public place, it's a private conversation. Now if one of those blokes stood up in a pub and shouted out that he had had a road race with a BMW M3 in his mark 1 Fabia VRS, then it would be exactly like starting a racing topic on here.

But would you then be more inclined to say anything? I doubt it.

This makes a lot of sense to me as it is so true...

One way to think about it, is what would you have said if you’d heard the two chaps talking about it in a pub, rather than a semi-anonymous message board?

Chances are, despite thinking these guys are a pair of idiots, you wouldn't have went over and wagged your finger and had a grumble at them.

On the flip-side, if you were the sort of person that thought what they were doing sounded like fun, you'd have been more likely to wander over and join in with their conversation.

My view, if you can't find a way to join the conversation in a postive or useful manner with the OP, then not to bother at all.

Different if they were asking people's general opinion of racing on the road, then fire-away, give it to them, but if your opinion isn't asked for, it won't be well received. Even if your trying to help the poor sod, by offering advice on the legal intricacies of racing on public roads, you know it's not going to go down well, or change their behaviour, so why bother? If they're daft enough to post about it on here, let them find their own consequences. If you struggle to turn a blind eye, the report button is a mere click away, anonymous, doesn't stir-up trouble, doesn't give you the reputation as a 'troller' and is much quicker than replying.

Ironic, coming from a Golf Bluemotion driver ;)

Difference = private conversation v public forum

I was referring to the later comment about it being broadcast, it is then no longer a private conversation.

Importantly it wouldn't make it anymore likely for me to want to contribute.

Having a pop at someone or something they post on a forum is only going to end one way, and there have been plenty of examples of this on here lately.

Report and ignore.
