Should I react to 'racing' posts, or just turn a blind eye?

  • Personally, i don't give a monkeys what it's faster than or if it handles like a shed, as long as i know how to drive it and i enjoy the drive, then that's all that matters to me.

  • Report, ignore, we'll sort! Job done!

  • Aright then, the basic core fact is that everybody races on the roads, it's a bit like fight club, the first rule is you don't talk about it.. Every other thread on here is " ooh look at my big exhaus

The MK I fabia vRS is a slow shed that handles poorly.

It's now in the price point where anyone can buy one "mod" it to make it handle well (Which BTW they still don't without huge trade off) and then try and race you.

I had one behind me on the A4 the other day and it had a big grill in the front, but couldn't corner for toffee.

Every straight, gaining (although I wasn't trying) and every corner into the distance.

It gets very boring, very quickly and how anyone can think it's a well handling car or particularly fast is beyond me.

I've got a big old boring family car and it can't keep up, so I dread to think what a MK I/II Golf GTI, 205 GTI, R5 GT or anything in the old school hot hatch would do to it.

At the end of the day, a racing thread is a e-pen enhancer, where some people with far too much testosterone (from never getting laid) decide it will increase their chances of this happening.

Oh and before anyone mentions the Mini Cooper, I've had a similar incident as above while driving the Mini One and while the Fabia might have been faster on the straights, there was no way it was getting past (again) due to the dreadful handling in the corners.

The fabia is faster than a type r though right ? *Runs before the Calvary arrive*

Not the fastest, not the best handling, not the most economical. But for me, it has a good mix of all 3 that makes it such a fun car to drive.

Feels like a little, chubby, eager puppy.

And that's why I'm perfectly happy with my 1.4 16 valver. It's not going to set a blistering lap time and to make it move you have to poke it with a stick. But it gets me up to motorway speed quickly enough, and quicker if I need to, there's enough power there to safely overtake should i need to, and it's still good fun to drive on the twistys.

If I was purchasing again the only difference is that I'd have gone for a VRS or 1.9 TDi, because I like the way it looks and it's economical. That's all I'm fussed about :)
