Urgent help needed

Featured Replies

Well i had a blown out rear left tail light , so i popped it out and replaced the new one from the cars spare bulb box.

Still no joy so i checked the fuse box in the engine, nothing was blown but some of them i had to remove to inspect and i did put them back in the correct slots.

But now when i try to start the car it will not start and a few lights on the dash will not go off.

can anyone advise please as im supposed to be doing a 400mile round trip in the morning :(

Also the damn bulb fault is still on!.

Any fuses for the lights will be in the panel at the drivers end of the dash. Are you sure you have put the fuses back in the correct positions? The fuse layouts are in the handbook.

Remember the fuse layout in the handbook for the end of the dash is mirror image.

each fuse i took out went straight back into the same slot after i had checked it, im totaly stumped how checking the fuses has done this.

I am not sure about Skoda, BUT I had an X5 and when it went a bit screwed up with electrics, the AA guy disconnected the battery and asked me to make a brew, half an hour later he reconnected it and everything worked again.

Have you called the AA/RAC or similar?

i've just come in after doing the battery trick but no joy, i just rang up RAC and got the we're not in till 9am tommorow till 5pm over the easter period.

It was only disconnected for about 20odd mins though, is the 30mins the min period or is it a average time?.

The power steering and ESP lights should go out after you drive it for a bit after a power disconnect. I also had a bulb warning once before that I was puzzled by. I turned on all the lights in turn and nothing was blown and the light stayed on. It didn't go out until I put it in reverse and I guess it checked those work too.

I don't know exact times, we just had a brew and went back out. Is there anybody with a handheld in your area that could plug in for you? Maybe a fellow Briskodian in your area might be able to help?

Good luck with it mate

As above, most if not all of the lights will go out after you've driven for a few minutes, but I guess you can only do that when you get the engine running again.

Which bulb have you swapped out?

It is worth noting that the bulbs at the top and bottom of the 'C' shape are 21W/4W, not the far more popular 21W/5W. Even the spare bulb kits often have the wrong bulbs in, as too do most of the bulb charts on line and in Halfords etc.

it was the top twin filament and that is what the problem is im guessing as it was a single filament so i replaced it with a single.

i've had to call out a local garage but he was truthful and said to ring up again tomorrow at 9am or id get charged double for this evening.

AA were trying to charge me £150 but the local lads just want £45+tax.

i'll swap out that single in the morning and pop in a double but the non starting is the kick in the teeth.

Have you tried going back through what you changed? re trace your steps and end up with the old bulb back in the light, does the car start? If it does I would do your journey tomorrow and then change the bulb again when you have more time.

Ah, the estate is a little different to the hatch.

It uses a single filament bulb and performs the dual function by adjusting the brightness. Sorry, I should have read your profile.

The old one was blown but like i said after checking the fuses in the dash all looked ok, but after having a quick scout in the engine fuse box and removing the ones i couldnt see properly but putting them in the correct slots, the car wont start wtih all the lights shown in the picture above:(.

When you say no start, Do you mean it does NOT crank over or it will not fire. :wall:

Tried a spare key?

Are you sure the fuses are in correctly? And as above is it cracking over but no start or does it do nothing when you turn the key? Might help diagnose the problem.

it does nothing totaly unresponsive apart from all the warning lights on the dash.

has anyone got a picture of a default engine fusebox setup so i can double check in the morning, as everything was fine until i checked on it.

Iam almost sure there must be a misplaced fuse. You wouldn,t get a problem like this after.

im starting to think that now even though i only lifted the fuse to see and then replaced in the same slot, i just need to get a pic of the correct layout so i can double check in the morning.

The engine fusebox is the one im talking about.

if anyone can see something im missing it would make me a happy man and a happy wife as well, i noticed this time in the dark that there is a flashing P on my automatic box instead of a steady green P.

Edited by Jason157

Its not unusual for the starter solenoid trigger wire to snap at the multiplug connection. Id be checking that.

re check all fuses & relays connected with the auto box. (ie will only start in N or P i think)

Have you tried jump leads to ensure you haven't got a flat battery?
