Stage 1 differences

Featured Replies

Just wondering how varied stage 1 maps are on the 1.8t.

Is there any particular 1 to go for? (Revo, shark etc)

I'm looking at going for panel filter and new bov, so far all I have been able to decide is that I should get a forge bov.

I apologise in advance for the noob question but its just my luck to jump in and either spend over the odds

Makes a big difference but don't fit a bov !!

Standard one will be fine or a recirc forge 007 etc

Standard everything as long as in working order OK.

No need either for a panel filter = less fltration.

So there is nothing seen as a preferred choice. With jap cars there are many ways to remap but preferred choice for most is using an apexi power FC.

Think I'm leaning more towards revo with forge 008 and piper x panel filter

I personally prefer revo, my polo gti teamed with sps switch its pretty unbeatable.

Off to r-tech near Leicester on the 9th for mine, taking it totally standard and should see between 210-220. They come highly recommended on here, so il let u know!

R-tech are very good

Polo with sps unbeatable lol

Jap stuff uses Apexi power FC because the standard ecu's are encrypted and cant be altered. APFC are replacement ecu's not just maps.

Will do 210bhp

Standard exhaust cant push any more

On the phone they asked about the car if it was standard etc and then quoted up to 220- guy I spoke to has a mk1 vrs and is a member on here too

I had a custom stage 1 from r-tech with carbonio, forge 007p and front mount intercooler

And it made 210bhp as the exhaust downpipe is the restriction

One of my mates had his vrs on the rollers with a stage 1 remap and it made 205bhp on one and 215bhp on another so 210bhp sounds spot on :)

Still a decent figure- I'll be happy with that anyway! I've been looking for downpipes too cos I had heard about the restrictions but never in a million years gonna pay £400 for one! Playing the waiting game on second hand ones for the time being!!

What's wrong with the eBay ones for £90? Mate ran one on his mk4 Golf 1.8t and it was spot on.

Then you fall into the realms of having no cat...?

standard cat can be made to fit the turbo side of the 2-piece ebay downpipe, you'll need to make up triangular flange for the cat (can use the one from the 2nd part of the pipe on the right.) It's a bit of fiddling around but still probably cheapest option for an upgraded downpipe. The cat is short enough to fit between the 3 inch downpipe and the rest of exhaust.

So you're telling me you'll spend hundreds and thousands modifying the car for power but will skimp on a few quid to have some flanges made up for the standard cat?

care to share?

Don't think that is what he is saying unless I missed something.

He said don't want to spend 400 quid.

A decat for 90 quid like the pic is a option but he may want to run car legal.

Few options are weld std cat to the decat as the std cat is good, the restrictions are in the std downpipe. Or get a 200 cell cat and weld that to a decat for much less than 400 quid. I have also seen cheaper sports cat's instead of the miltek type items. I bought one from said company for less than 120 quid. I may have a Blueflame sports cat up for sale soon.

Maybe be you should share your spec as it must be a monster

i didnt say it was a monster, the question was about stage 1 remaps so i answered with my experience of revo after having at least 5 cars in the family with revo stage 1 maps.

try not looking down your nose....

Lol

Where in yorkshire are you as I could take you for a run in my stage 1 vrs to give you an idea of differance between a standard one and a mapped one

You won't go wrong with R-tech.

Just depends how far you want to go?

If you want a map to feel a certain way you should be able to ask for that with any of the custom mappers. Mine is quite aggressive and I like it, mainly cos I'm a five year old at times but its cos it just feels more raw.

I'm in Yorkshire too if you need a preview.

But, running your car with a decat is not illegal. There is nothing in the law that states running a decat is illegal and that it won't pass an mot. If you can get your car through an emissions test without a cat it would still be a pass. Obviously we all know that is very unlikely to happen haha
