Smart Brabus ForFour

Featured Replies

Had a drive - not much finesse and a bit rough and ready in the engine dept compared with the 1.8T, but if you take it by the scruff of the neck and keep the engine on the boil, it digs in, grips and goes very well.

I reckon it would make a good demo / used buy.

177bhp and lightweight so 60 in 6.5 (quote 6.9 to 62.5) so with a bit of tuning, in the 5's ?

Pretty good going, what size engine do they use in the brabus version?

Manny

It is a 1.5 T, same engine as a Colt CZT. Colt is only 150BHP & 5 K cheaper.

Colt could probably be chipped the same bhp as the brabus for a lot less than 5k!

I doubt you could tune the brabus one much more than it is?

From a 1.5 you're looking at a pretty well stressed engine - I wouldn't like to tune one.

I drove this on saturday. It doesnt feel like its a turbo, or a VVT either. It just feels like a revvy petrol car. The clutch was VERY heavy, and gear box is direct but not as direct and positive as the furby vRS'.

Overall, wouldnt spend 17195 on it, wouldnt even spend 12000 on it!

As a less than year old one I think it would be ok in terms of performance per

It would have an easier life if it was half the power - i agree. However 100 hp / litre with forced induction isn't too bad.

Remember the VAG 1.8t comes in a 225 version which is 125 hp / litre and a few people are running between this figure and over 400 hp out of a 1.8 T which is 222.22hp / litre

With that in mind it would be ammusing to see a 330+ hp out of a 1500cc - lol...........

The engine is stressed, and thus service intervals are reduced to about 7k i think, much like my roadster really. It wont be long before they get 200bhp out of it, there are third party companies that create remaps for brabus tuned smarts to take it just that one stage further.

example,

standard roadster 82bhp, remapped to 101bhp

brabus roadster, 105bhp, remapped to 125/135bhp

so they will probably squeeze it for all its worth.

Personally i think the power delivery was too wide and you didnt get any urgency out of the car. I was in the car and my m8, who's the dealer, said "feel the neck jerking speed" and i just said, "yeah ok".

Does anyone know why the fabia vRS doesnt have the dangerous torque steer that i felt in the for4?

Probably as the Furby (standard) is able to put down the power relatively well (that said, 1st & 2nd to be avoided and you need to be cautious in corners if you are too harsh with the accelerator).

A wide power band is not that bad a thing, makes it easier to drive. That said, you can probably as you say make it feel faster by making the delivery more peaked. Dunno what the impact on the rest of the car would be of doing so however though?

The Furby is very easy to live with. It can go pretty fast if you want it to, or more chilled out if you prefer. The interiour is sparse but functional, and a guy took one out for a test drive, was very impressed with it in the main but didnt like its plain looks.

I don't consider it a race car, and a remap will make it a lot better but still, it needs suspension tweaks at the very least to make it handle good enough for me to want to push it to its limits in a way where I know I can 'catch it' if it goes. Not got near trying that for ages though :D
