Access to mirror puddle light bulb

Featured Replies

I am going to swap the incandescent bulbs for LEDs. Do I access it by removing the glass or the black plastic lower housing? Thanks

Remove the glass. This will expose a torx screw. undo that and the clear cover should come away with a bit of gentle, but firm, encouragement :)

Many thanks

Leave glass, removing the mirror case. Easier

you can do it without removing the glass

you can pop the mirror cap off tnen you can remove the bulb. You can watch this video show you how to remove cap

"Change your VW wing

mirror cap - " How to" - YouTube"

its same as mk2 mirror

Mine doesn't like leds in the puddle lights, they work fine but if I scan using vcds an error is shown on both doors for the illumination.

They aren't canbus friendly ones, just standard leds.

Thanks for the input and advice chaps. The FL mirror covers don't seem to be removable like the pre FLs. I decided to go with mirror glass removal which I was very nervous about as the drivers glass dims (£££££'s!). I had a think about it and ran the mirror heaters for the last 5 minutes of my journey home to soften the plastic in the hope it would ease the removal and I did the passenger side first in case it broke (non-dimming). They popped off without too much trouble and no damage. I used canbus LEDs and the job is done! Also did the sidelights, number plate lights and the internal lights. Looks proper spankin' The only bulbs I'd still like to change are the P21W DRLs but even canbus ones throw up the warning light.

Does anyone know if the wiring is there for those without puddle light, or any mods that can be done to illuminate us without puddle lights.

Had the same problem, connected a 150 ohms Resistor in parallel, no errors now, if this helps!

Cheers, I have some resistors but the puddle lights work fine, it is just an annoying error when you do a scan.

Probably easier to just fit some canbus leds instead.
