After one month - a mini review

Featured Replies

After one month of use I thought I would offer my thoughts on the Skoda Superb.

Mine is a company car. It's an Elegance Greenline II in standard spec except Magic Black Metallic paint. I took delivery on March 1st with 7 miles on the clock and it now has 2,500 miles. My longest journey in one day was 340 miles when it returned an average of 64.4mpg and I felt comfortable throughout.

I've mostly been in the car alone but I have also had colleagues and family with me several times including a boot full of gear and the performance doesn't seem to be effected. Whilst we can all look at the figures generated by this 1.6 engine and think how on earth does it ever move, the reality is a revelation. It pulls well, can still accelerate at 70mph in 5th and is a very relaxed, quiet and pleasant place to be.

The 1.6 engine can lack the torque of larger units which may mean you need to drop a gear but its no big deal. The good level of equipment serves me well as the miles pile on and I've got to say I love the car.

I think it does have some areas for improvement. The cruise control 'cancel' button could be better designed as at first it's very easy to indicate left whilst operating it. It would be better if the sat nav provided earlier warning of the next movement ahead as 1.5 miles really isn't enough when traveling at speed for those more complicated maneuvers on busy motorways. Also, you can fold the mirrors in but not while your moving and although you get used to the handbrake being positioned for LHD, it really should have been moved over.

The car is comfortable, well equipped, very roomy and anytime I think I'd like more pace I remind myself of the fabulous economy and low BIK rate. Those who don't try this car because of the badge are missing out.

agree with you 100% on that review, and yes the people who buy the passat over the superb are defo defo missing out on a cheaper and just better car, as i have the 1.6 TDI too i can see where you talk about changing down for an incline sometimes, as near my house there is a very steep hill and i could be in 3rd in my old 57 plate classic 1.9TDI octavia and drive straight up it no probs, but i need to change down to 2nd in the superb doesn't really bother me the engine meets my need absolutely fine. as for the cruise control i can't comment as my s spec doesn't have it but when i book it in for its 1st service which by millage should my end of May or start if June i will ask them to install it and code the engine for it maybe see how thing go and can't believe its been a month since the 13 plates came out already.

You'll get used to the CC operation, although I do prefer the separate stalk for CC like in the Audi, the new Octavia does have a separate stalk so this should transfer over to the Superb in time.

I agree with the folding mirrors - think u can't fold if above 10mph?

Nice mini review :-)

Just drove a courtesy Greenline 20 miles after dropping my CR140 DSG off for some warranty stuff. I was very pleasantly surprised, I may be off on a 200 mile mini break later - will probably use the Skoda in preference to wife's Focus CC3 to see how little I can make the trip cost :-)

Did ove 200 miles in the Greenline, I drove to get there not to post good mpg. Car computer is showing 55mpg! As its a courtesy car I'm not going to brim it. The thing I did miss was cruise control but it's certainly a lot of car. I also found the gear change indicator strange - it often suggested an up change which IMO left the car labouring -it was certainly vibrating.

Hopefully back to my L & K estate today.
