gear linkage reset

Featured Replies

Does anyone know how to reset the gear linkage on a 6 speed gearbox?

Im having difficulty sometimes engaging 3rd. I know from my previous Mk1 vRS that you had to lock the shifter by pressing down on the shifter and turn a little black lever but the 6 speed box doesnt seem to have this

Thanks

This should help:

Useful little video, surprising how simple it is to reset considering how complicated the mechanism looks at first glance..

Does this actually work? I sometimes have difficulty engaging gears and other times its like butter.

Well it's only going to work if the linkage has gone out of alignment over the years of use. No harm in trying it if you think that may be the problem.

I have done this, and it's pretty easy as the vid shows. The hardest part was trying to find a correct size pin to lock the gear lever with!

Going to give this a try mines is notchy as hell.

Just wondering do i have to get under the car to lock the springs ?

No you don't, I done mine all from above the car with the car sat on the drive.

you wont be able to reach the springs from underneath the car as they are on top of the gearbox, just reach into the engine bay, easy.

old tread resurrection here...

I'm sometimes having problem to engage 1st gear and this gear is also sticky so I thought I would try to replace gear linkage bushing and (gear selector has side movement so time to replace anyway) and hope it's not a synchro or gearbox bearing.

Thought I would go with 42 bushing set from Awesome GTI (http://www.awesomegti.com/parts/transmission/quick-shifts) but now sure which one I need and not sure what else is needed to be replaced?

Car is Octavia 2.0 non VRS, 6 speed, BKD, 2008.

Any thoughts?
