Yeti Roof Bars - Any non genuine recomendations?

Featured Replies

Hello.

I need some roof bars for my new (used) Yeti. I only use the roof box about twice a year for UK holidays so I'm not spanking £140 on the genuine Skoda ones.

Has anyone any recommendations from the various ones available on ebay or another online retailer please

I was thinking these look OK:

same as me, very occassional use.

I got universal roof bars from tesco online for around £25.

took a wardrobe 200 miles without falling off so must be OK.

sadly they don't do them any more (hey maybe someone lost a wardrobe!!)

Being serious the ones you mention look rather good, silver finish as well.

Thule my a*se as Jim Royal might say!

I do take um bridge to the yeti being classed as an MPV.

But the bars look okay

I went for Thule second hand steel square bars and a new discounted footpack of fleebay, although they cost me about £85 all told from memory, but good solid kit, only used a couple of times mind now my lad feels he's beyond the age of going on hols with mum & dad :giggle:

Hello

So I went for a set of these and they seem ok. Delivery was free/included in the buyitnow and they arrived the next day (today).

Bars are decent aluminium like my old genuine octavia ones with a grippy rubber strip down the centre.

The 'feet' parts are a combination of plastic and metal and are not as well made as the genuine ones but are shaped to fit the yeti rails well. They are a faff to tighten with an Allen key but then so were the genuine Skoda ones for the octavia.

So for £47 delivered, and occasional use I am happy. Of course the real test will be in a couple of weeks when I use them in anger with the roof box. Slightly concerned by the "max speed 55mph" on the instructions as that will be exceeded on the motorway but I think they will be fine. The roof box has a 70mph limit anyway. In theory ;)

Our youngest still comes with us, and she's 26 :S

I think the free holiday has something to do with it.

I run Whispbars that sit between the rails. Bought them 2nd hand but practically as new for $100 (approx 70 quid).

Just as the advertising indicates, they are deathly silent. Esp compared to my old Rolas, or friend's Thules.

I picked up a Thule 775 foot pack kit from fleebay for £25. I had the bars from years back (fleebay again); the feet are quick to fit and are very secure.

I have moved loads of MDF sheets (not all at once....) and as yet the whole setup remains rigid until removed.

Keep looking, they do appear from time to time on the online sites.

Hi.

Ive used these bars twice now and to be honest, I think they are quite poor and will get something else before I next need to use the roof box. Admittedly they are cheap but they are a faff to fit, they whistle like a camp site kettle and don't inspire confidence .

I will be looking for a Thule 775 foot with 969 bar or 869 bar combo. I think :)

Paul, are these made by Menabo like the Lidl ones? I've used them on the Superb and previously on my old Marea to transport surf boards. They do indeed whistle loads. I filled the gap underneath with a chopped up length of pipe lagging. Seemed to get them to shut up quite a bit.

I have a genuine set I took off my Yeti

Make me a sensible offer and they can be yours.

Whilst I have not used, and am unlikely to use, roof bars I found this discussion interesting. Perhaps this Whispbar demo Mr. Google found for me might be of interest to some here?:

No connections to the company in any way whatsoever. PB

I've got Thule. The feet I picked up on Ebay, the bars from an on-line bike store. I think it came to around £90 in total. I don't use them a lot but they seem to do the job, strong and secure.

Don't forget the old adage "Buy cheap, buy twice".

Use Aerobars myself, no noise, leave 'em on all the time, haven't made a difference to fuel cosumption, got 'em from The Roof Box co(no connection)

Have been used lots, well pleased!
