"Golus" 18" Wheels

Featured Replies

Assuming the demo over the weekend works out well, I could be ordering a 2.0D Elegance Combi next week. I really like the look of the "Golus" wheels, but I am a bit worried about the potential degradation in ride quality going from the standard 225/45 R17 to the Golus 225/40 R18. Has anyone tried the combo? I am guessing not tbh, since it sounds as though the demonstrators have been light on options.

Standard wheels / Golus in images below.

Actually, I think I would prefer a nice Steel Grey one

I drove a couple on 18's at the pre-launch.

Didn't really notice much difference, but then I had been standing for about 4 hours so just needed to sit down

You've got to love the PR images that make the wheels look as if they fill the arches, unfortunately every jpeg I have seen has the familiar "stilted" look which means (IMHO) 18's and sports suspension options are a must. It's vain but looks over ride quality every time for me!

Well I hope the seats were comfortable after that! Thanks.

You are quite right - I think a compromise would be to have the wheels but not the sports suspension

Saw a nice looking Mk3 in Swansea this eveing - Denim Blue. Wheels looked tiny though - must have been 16s...

The dealer had 2 demos launch weekend. The one sitting on the Golus looked much better IMHO.

I agree - it's the ride I worry about though. But I don't suppose an Octy3 on 18s would be worse than my A4 on 245/45 R17 - at least it is an SE rather than a rock-hard S-line

Coming out of a Leon FR makes my vRS feel like a Bentley...doesn't make up for lack of teeth or slipped disc tho! Lol

I didn't spec the 18" wheels on my Elegance; how much time do you actually spend looking at the exterior of your car, the ride will be harder, and come replacement time the tyres will be more expensive.

I was considering the sports suspension but only for the 17" rims. Reason I decided against it was because it's actually more firm than the MK2 VRS suspension which is just about the limit for me. For the sake of having the extra comfort I don't mind losing that little bit of style.

When you say "it's actually more firm than the MK2 VRS...", do you mean the sports suspension, or the standard suspension?

Sorry I mean the Sports Suspension option for the MKIII is supposedly more firm than the sports suspension that comes standard on the VRS MKII.

OK, thanks. So what have you heard about the ride with Golus?

I've heard it's really boring, cos all he ever talks about is the "precious".........................sorry, wrong thread.

Where was that info from?

Fair play if you have a Porsche to admire on your drive! ;)

Does anyone know if Octavia II wheels will fit? i.e. 5X112 on a 57.1mm hub? An idea of offset would also be handy too. Thanks.

No it isn't.

Or at least my Mk 3 Elegance with sports suspension isn't noticeably different to my MK2 VRS in terms of ride quality, or ride height

The ride and handling on the standard suspension, at legal speeds on A roads isn't noticeably different to my CR vRS.... But the ride height is a bit scoutish lol !
