Love the work you've done mate. Will keep an eye on this.

What profile are your tyres?

Cheers. It's on 205/45 that's meant to be on it

  • Just had a stage 1 map from fabooka on here. Went for a high torque map with launch control, left foot braking and egr delete and it is awesome. Should of done it months ago. Also got another map I ca

  • I will do that tomorrow and hopefully that fabia at the scrapyard will be the same, I should of looked what year it was but I was too busy looking at the TT next to it with red leathers in for dan lol

  • Got my boost pipe off of niceyellowvrs and fitted it last night. Had a job to do in Birmingham today and what a pleasure it was to drive! I can't believe how much power I'd lost through the boost leak

So today I went down the bro in laws garage and serviced it and then ripped the gearbox out. The DMF had some play but not excessive and I was expecting to see the clutch down to the rivets but it still had abit of meat left on although you could see where it was slipping and the 2 plates did move abit on the rivets. It was a Sachs setup that came out so happy I got a Sachs setup to go back in.

It's had oil and filter changed, new fuel filter and Sachs slave, clutch and DMF. The clutch is feather light and feels really nice. Will give it about 500 miles to bed in before I give it full boost so that will probably be done by Thursday lol. Ordered all the bits from car parts for less and the Sachs stuff was about £340 and the service stuff about £40.

Still need to sort out the exhaust, decided I don't want the standard exhaust on as I hate the tip so going to put a oval or twin back box on like I had before or put a silencer in there just to get rid of the whistle on idle. Boost gauge has been taken out and sold and I need to sort some lowering springs when I've recovered from buying this lot!!

Been toying with getting rid due to a few niggles wearing away at me so I'm now trying to sort them and hopefully get the love back or get it in a better shape to sell.

The first thing annoying me is a boost leak. Bought the hard top pipe to replace mine as I took the boost gauge out and wanted it not to have a bolt in it where I had the boost take off so fitted that but it's still leaking, traced it to the rubber pipe that comes off that into the top of the intercooler so I've ordered that off of Haydn on here who's breaking a fabia. Hopefully that will be end of my boost leak problems.

Next up was the coilovers, the bounciness is getting too much for me so after much researching I've ordered some eibach springs. Not cheap but seem to be rated highly and I couldn't bring myself to run the standard springs and have the massive arch gap so hopefully even with these fitted it won't put off buyers if I do go ahead with selling.

Still need to sort out a back box for it, I don't think many people will buy it with a decat 0 box system on so really need to sort out welding a oval back box on to get rid of the jet engine whistle on idle.

Last thing to sort then is a window motor as I've emailed no end of people but it's always the 3 plug motor they have. I'm off to Florida on the 20th for 2 weeks so if I still can't get one when I've got back I'll have to bite the bullet and get a new one for £160 :( :(

Hopefully I'll get the love back for it then but if not it's just a case of strut brace and rarb off to sell, s2000 filter off and airbox back on, put it on the lower torque map and possibly sell the leathers out of it. Hoping it won't come to this as I genuinely think I will regret it and won't get something as good but I'm just not feeling it at the min so I'll see what happens when it's got its new stuff on.

Got my boost pipe off of niceyellowvrs and fitted it last night. Had a job to do in Birmingham today and what a pleasure it was to drive! I can't believe how much power I'd lost through the boost leak, even when it sounded like it had sealed it must of been leaking and down on power. Super smooth to drive and feels like when I first got it mapped now I've got the power back so feeling the love for it more now :)

This can go in the bin now, the hard pipe is fine but I thought it was originally leaking where I put the bolt in when I took out the boost gauge but was down to worn lugs where it goes in the intercooler. Even though I double cable tied all joints it still leaked really bad but with my new pipe and it all double cable tied up it's sorted :)

Got home and these had arrived :)

IMG_20140606_154801_zpskiyzhnr5.jpg

My eibach springs I won on eBay. Rear paint is flaking and they are corroded but my JOMs are the same, they all seem to weather badly on the rear of these but they are solid and the fronts are in very good condition so I can tell they're not donkey's year old. Hopefully fit these over the weekend so I can test them on my long drive to the Emirates stadium on Monday where I'm working but I'm minibussing all weekend so will probably be too tired :(

Only 2 weeks today until I'm in Florida :D then when I get back if there's no second hand window motors about still I'll get a new one. Also need to sort out a wheel bearing as it seems the osf one is squeaking, always something but if the ride is nice and it doesn't look too bad I'll be keeping it so won't mind spending on it.

Excellent glad you got the boost leak sorted :)

Excellent glad you got the boost leak sorted :)

So am I just excited to get my springs on now :) hope it rides nice and doesnt sit too high

Saw earlier on Instagram that you sorted the boost leak, glad its running sweet again. Car is certainly looking well fella

They look so much better on the eibachs over standard.

So last night I had a few hours in between doing bus runs so started to change my suspension. This is how it went in

IMG_20140607_195029_zpstcpf423y.jpg

In my eyes that's how I like my cars to look but the ride was horrendous so off they come :(

Only got the rears and osf done last night so seeing as I was leaving it on the ramp I decided to poly my doggone mount bush with stikaflex. This sets as polyurethane same as poly bushes but it's £5 a tube, just needs 12 hours to set in the cold.

IMG_20140607_225446_zpscqqkwxrj.jpg

Finished it off this morning and the ride is so smooth I can't believe how well it drives. The only downside is the arch gap on the front :( hoping it will settle some more as this was just after I went round the car park. The rear looks ok but the front sits too high for my liking, is this how eibachs sit?

IMG_20140608_114226_zpsksyx1hej.jpg

Can't tell much difference with dogbone mount, the keys jangle very slightly but can't say I noticed it accelerate better but only drove it home. Working at arsenal tomorrow so the long drive will hopefully settle the springs and I'll notice a improvement in the dog bone mount. Going to stikaflex my console bushes so they're solid when I get chance. Just window motor and exhaust to sort now

  • Author

Been for abit of a drive in it and that dog bone mount has made a difference, feels a lot keener when pulling off. Must be one of those things where you don't realise how much play there is until you sort it. Can't say I've noticed it any quicker but certainly feels more solid when driving. Deffo need to stikaflex my console bushes when I know I won't be driving it so it can set. The front springs seem to have gone down a smidge so I'm hoping the drive to the big smoke in the morning will sort them out. Really am loving the comfort of it now though

Glad you've got the love back Kyle. Might even copy your idea of sikaflex and do my console bushes :)

sikaflex is some decent stuff.

As for the dogbone not noticing it... You'll notice that you get faster pickup and less wheel hop (if you haven't noticed this then it wasn't too tired - if you have, you know what I mean!) - it's like a intermittent wheelspin at set-off, especially noticeable if you are setting off hard on a hill start.

Yeah it's coming back the more I do to it :) have you not got power flex bushes in already? I've got abit of a wheel wobble under heavy braking and even though my console bushes only have a tiny amount of play if I use a bar to check them it's all I can think it can be so will try sikaflex and see if it at least reduces it

Can't say I've noticed getting wheel hop, it normally just breaks traction and wheel spins so I try and do a more rolling start. Does feel more solid though even setting off normally. Might try launch control tomorrow see if gets traction better now I've done it

No poly bushes yet mate well just the gearbox one which made a huge difference. Would quite like to get them fitted but got other things to spend on at the moment such are more leather!!

Wheel wobble under heavy braking... Bushes and/or wheel hubs/warped discs...

...Only know because I had an octy with a warped wheel hub which had the same issue.

It *could* also be your tracking being out - worth getting checked.

Funny you mention the hub as I've started to get a rotational squeak that goes when you turn left putting weight on it which leads me to suspect wheel bearing but wonder if it is the hub. Might get a second hand one so it rules out the hub and wheel bearing in one. Will also sikaflex the console bushes and if that still doesn't cure it I'll fit some discs and pads again

Bad hubs can kill bearings and discs pretty sharpish, exhibiting exactly the same results you're seeing...

...Not saying it's definitely the case but after 2 sets of discs/pads I replaced the hubs and - voila. Gone.

I even got the other discs reground and used them - no problems.

I will source a drivers hub and see how I get on. The brake judder started not long after I fitted the discs and pads and has progressivelygot worse but I bedded the brakes in so it shouldnt be that. Bit of a coincidence the hub started to cause a brake judder at the same time I fitted new discs and pads. Will get to the bottom of it though

Went to the brother in laws garage earlier and put my new exhaust on. It's a powerflow back box off a golf with oval tip

Snapchat-20140612062132_zps0ltouu7q.jpg

Got rid of the whistle on idle and it still sounds good on full boost. I can now hear the cone filter whoosh so that's a plus point too :D going to wash the car and polish the exhaust as it's abit grubby. Looks very much like the standard exhaust so shouldn't put any buyers off when I come to sell.

Can't say the car is to my taste anymore but the mrs loves it again. I'm thinking of trying to lower the front by another 10mm by maybe redrilling where the strut bolt passes through so I can knock the strut abit further down into the hub. I'm not sure why the front sits slightly higher than the rears when they are deffo eibach springs all round. Will be a job for after Florida anyway and I need to sort out a window motor when I'm back too. Thinking of going back to silver wheels now it's looking more standard as I don't think it can pull off the anthracite in monster truck height :D and then probably going back to green callipers as if I sell it the cone filter and strut brace will come off so the whole red theme will be gone. Am I thinking too much into this or would red callipers put you lot off of it if you were buying it?

Red calipers wouldn't put me off if I knew who had been working on it, just shows you have been taking care of it.

Nice job Kyle, love that new tip.

What profile are your tyres? look pretty chunky.

Standard 205/45 16, it's probably the monster truck stance that makes them look big lol. I've devised a cunning plan to move the strut 10mm lower in the hub to try and level it out so should look alot better then hopefully

Gave the car a clean today and spent 15mins polishing the exhaust with some autosol. Should of took a pic before but forgot but it was black around the tip and the stainless wasn't shiny at all. Quite pleased with the outcome :)

Having a easy week this week as I go to Florida on Friday so gunna go down the garage at some point and see if my plan to get the front struts sat about 10mm lower in the hubs will work - I'm feeling pretty confident so fingers crossed! Will be happy with it if it sits level to the rear. Really do prefer the new exhaust, sounds so much better not only at idle but also inside it's alot quieter. Once my windows are working again I don't think I'll want to get rid after all, it's slowly turning into the car I should of done from the start
