Featured Replies

hello :)

was just wondering if you could offer some advice :)

i fancy a digital slr camera as i seem to like taking photos these days. i have a canon powershot a85 at the moment can you gus recomend a good camera for me ?

ta :D

Canon 350D. Its Canon's newest D-SLR, and replaces the 300D. It is however smaller, lighter and is 8 meg.

It is a cracking piece of kit, and takes all the Canon SLR lenses.

Some examples of its results from my hols recently..

I looked at digital SLRs while in Japan and decided they were too big and heavy. I have a 35mm SLR and it hardly comes out of its case these days. Maybe I'm getting old.... :( Anyway I bought a newer compact digital, and so far I'm pretty happy. You pays your money and you takes your choice, I guess.

Humph!

My (SLR) camera broke while I was at Kennedy Space Centre. I never got any pictures!

I'm surrounded by folks who use digital SLR's but I really don't want to get back into all that complication. Also, I suspect that my dodgy neck and back are at least partly due to all the years I carted huge mechanical SLR's around.

So I've stuck with My Nikon Coolpix 990, and I've just bought a Canon S70, which I'm very pleased with. 7MP, with lots of manual modes.

Having lost 10 films of shots from the last Florida hols 2 years ago I decided digital was the way forward.

I dont regret it for a minute (just as well with 679 pics to sort)

There's nothing worse than realizing you've lost unrepeatable photos. I had a fight with one of the big postal processors some years ago, when they lost some of my films.

If I go on a "special" trip, I might still invest in one of those hard disk backup units, so I can download all my piccies.

Plus with the benefit of SLR you can always get a big zoon lens for motorsport / wildlife shooting.

Something I've always wanted to try - the wildlife that is. Go out in the fields and go bird-snapping :)

nikon D70 is a good buy at the mo. thre is teh 350D from canon but some people find it too small. here is a list

Canon 350D body only

I agree many find the 350D small, however I have large hands with long fingers and I dont. What I do find is that it is compact enough to be able to carry around without feeling cumbersome and light enough to not feel like 4 bags of sugar.

If you want to compare it size wise, then the prosumer models are its closest challengers, but then they dont have the ability to use the whole range of Canon (or their own) vast range of lenses.

I am another 350D convert. Bought one a couple of weeks ago and am extremely impressed with it. I just need to get a slightly longer lens now to take some pics a bit further away now. :D
