I want my Superb to be repaired by Skoda.

What are my chances getting my insurance company (eSure) to do that?

Thanks

Sorry to see that! :( Its your choice, they cant stipulate where it goes. From experience you are better not going with their recommendation due to the fact they are probably on board primarily for the cheaply negotiated labour rate.

+1 on this wayne. I saw a TV program on insurance companies - from memory I think the RBS owned ones were featured. The 'assessors' put a lot of pressure on the repairers to cut costs and were able to do this because of the volume of business they put the bodyshops way. Might take a bit longer if you use someone else and they'll probably try and scare you by saying they won't guarentee the work if you do but worth the initial agro if you're not convinced their shop will do a good job. Best of luck

Cheers guys.

Skoda not good enough?

An insurance co can't insist that you use their recommended repairer - but many will not give you the choice inless you insist.

What they can do is ask you to get competitive quotes or have a clause that states you only get a courtesy car if you use their approved body shop.

You can have it repaired where you like. They will say that they can't guarantee you a courtesy car, though your chosen repairer will likely supply one, they may also stipulate that your excess is higher if you don't go with one of their repairers.

Do some local research as it doesn't necessarily follow that a Skoda approved bodyshop will be the best. We use one that does all the high end stuff, Bentley, Porshe, Ferrari etc and their work is top quality.

Cheers guys!

Will see wot happens when I claim.

Er, do I need to claim immediately?

Assuming 3rd party is at fault, get the insurance on it ASAP. Tell them you want a Skoda repairer, AND a loan car for the duration of the repair. As not at fault, if you need the same size then request it as it's the 3rd party paying.

Naturally I'm assuming you'd do this if you need that size of car for work or personal commitments etc and not to milk it which only raises all our premiums.

Cheers guys!

Er, do I need to claim immediately?

The sooner you get the claim in the insurers can start to sort out the repairs. As the car is still drivable you have time to see who they recommend to carry out the repair and how good they are. When the Wife's Mk1 Fabia got badly 'grazed' in a car park the insurers sent it to a local company that tend to deal in higher class cars and are VAG approved, needless to say the repair was first class.

I assume the white car reversed out as you were driving by?

Cheers everyone.

Yes, white car suddenly reverse whilst i just left my drive.

Will ask who the recommended bodyshop is then decide ...

Shall i try Audi?

As in the top marque in VAG would their body shop do a better job thn Skoda?

make sure loan-car is "of similar stature to your own" - ie, like for like and not a micra.

did this when i was crashed into (when parked, and car was locked!) on a dealer forecourt...

Al.

I think you will find that the main dealers will farm the work out to off site bodyshops in most cases. Or multifranchise dealers or chains will have an "all makes" off site bodyshop. When my mx5 was bumped in Germany I had it repaired at what I thought was the local Mazda dealer. It was not. Work was poor, paint did not match and even one of the rear light clusters had not been re connected when I collected it.

We have a small, well established bodyshop near here run by a family business, quality of work is excellent. I then wished I had taken it there but thought it would be better to take it to the Mazda dealer.

How wrong I was.

Go here to find an approved repairer near you and put a post on here for reviews

The only body shop I use is an aluminium, porsche, Bentley, Mercedes, audi, lambo specialist so try and find one similar to this for top notch repairs.

I see DM Keith in Leeds is on there!

if it was taken to skoda, vw ,seat ,audi body shop i would feel more relaxed to know that genuine parts would be getting used, but there is a good bit of sanding, filling, painting to be done on that door and as it has been pushed the way it has i would be thinking more along the lines of a new door and getting the suspension set up looked at too

Update

Just been to DM Keith Leeds.

Will leave insurance claim with their recommended ACCIDENT CLAIM company.

Sorry to see that! :( Its your choice, they cant stipulate where it goes. From experience you are better not going with their recommendation due to the fact they are probably on board primarily for the cheaply negotiated labour rate.

Be careful as in some discounted policies, you waive that right.

Accident Update:

Audrey (Superb) to be picked up and transported to DM Keith (Leeds) monday 29th.

Getting an Audi A4 auto on Monday!

Other party has admitted liability :-)

good to hear its getting fixed soon, how long do they need it for? A week maybe, give a verdict on the Audi when you get it, hope it goes smoothly and sure it will, keep us updated :)

Glad to see you're getting this sorted, but for future reference I don't believe Skoda will honor the paintwork warranty if the work is not carried out by a Skoda approved repairer - this means you'd typically only get a 12 month guarantee on an 'insurer chosen bodyshop' repair. With a Skoda Approved repair you retain your 'rusting from the inside out' warranty which is something like up to 12 years old from memory.

It's the only argument you need if it's a relatively new car ;)

  • 2 months later...

Norwich union (cant recall their new name of the last ten tears or so) just told me the £300 excess rises to £500 if I don't accept their approved repairer. ie. non Skoda.

Declined their quote.
