Shell Nitro + any feedback

Featured Replies

just got an email about it. any feedback?

Just a rebranding exercise and an excuse to charge getting on for £2 a litre.

According to Shell it is actually different, with 25% more of their 'Friction Modification Technology'. I did read that it's 99 RON rather than 98 too. Haven't tried it yet but you won't be able to tell any difference.

Actually come to think of it, I think V-Power was already 99 RON. Optimax was 98. Anyway what ever it is, it's not going to make any noticeable or measurable difference.

Noone's more sceptical than me about anyone's claims but lets give it a try, boys.

Very interested to hear of anyone who has an objective view after a fair trial since I use Shell Vpower.

Saw a claim about it ( based on Scandinavia and Slovakia last yearso I guess its been trialled there first) that it can raise BHP by a small degree but guess that sound unlikely.

Measurable difference yes, noticeable difference probably not. :giggle:

Hmmmm....well, I decided to try Shell V-Power for a few tankfuls to see how it performed......so far so good, the extra mpg I get seems to make it economically viable long term (yeah, slight increase in mpg just about matched the additional cost).

Just checked my driver's club transactions there.....and it lists each one as purchasing Shell V Power Nitro+......the receipt however doesn't, nor did the pump! My assumption is that I've just been buying V Power and not the Nitro+ option.....

I purchased v power so i gather its acutall nitro thingie?

Yes, it looks like Shell will quickly phase out "normal" VPower petrol and diesel in the next few day. What did it say on the pump?

I'm going in to refuel tomorrow in the North East so I'll have a look for the new VPower Nitro + instead of the normal fill up.

The pump I filled up at simply said V Power.

Same here

Why does the cynic in me just see this as a way to increase shell profits. The new fuel is 2P litre more wholesale, and I wonder if the modified additive mix costs just the same, or cheaper to produce hence bigger margins. Given the recent falls in crude and forecourt pricing it does make you wonder.

Snake oil anyone?

If its the Old Inns station then it still says V-Power i filled tonight.

I put £20 of it in last night and used it within an hour. What fun I had.

Yup - Old Inns Filling station it is!

Snake oil anyone?

They can't change it that much since it's all got to be done to standard. They can tinker at the edges with additives but not much else plus it's an excuse to put it up a penny or two. It might even be worse stuff for all we know. Nastier petrol with more additives to get it over the standards.

They could have said "New and improved V power" but they've called it "Nitro+". To me a chavvy and particularly unattractive name. Maybe they sell a lot of it to Corsa (Halfords Special edition) driving neds. Seems aimed at the that market.

I'd like to know the nitrous oxide content but then I hate bad science in adverts.

I just out £65 of this stuff in my car. Before I got off the forecourt I got a dash warning light. Exhaust emissions control light or something to that effect. Car feels the same as always has but highly coincidental. I've always used tesco momentum. First time in try shell as it was in desperation before work and I get pied.

Now to get car checked over. A month to get into Skoda grrrr

So, the Old Inns garage has now got Nitro + banners flying and it says on the pumps that it is V- Power Nitro +. So, I filled the tank and have used almost 200 miles worth (just about half). Wow....what can I say......no perceivable difference to me whatsoever!!! Car still runs fine, accelerates fine and gets me 10% more mpg or so over the Asda regular petrol I'd been putting in........just like V-Power did.....

Mind you that's just the first tank - perhaps my opinion will change with more use of the stuff....??

Well your wallet might be a few grams lighter to aid performance.

Zero difference, makes my exhaust sound louder!!

Will need to turn my stereo down to listen for the exhaust now........

I'm half way through my second tank on a fairly highly tuned ko4 petrol and I can't feel any difference at all compared to the usual V-power fuel in the tank.

Will need to turn my stereo down to listen for the exhaust now........

not sure if its maybe because i have a non res miltek that it sounds louder?
