  • Right, I wasn't going to get involved in this thread because in my opinion its making a big deal about nothing much. I have posted nothing more than a 'oo er missus' or a 'oh matron'. I hardly think

  • Don't take offence, but it could equally be argued that some members are trying to force others to be serious and not be 'lighthearted and jovial' for fear of offending others. I'll say it again, ign

  • Eh? What's the problem?

I have not read every thread, I am not too bothered, if you join a forum you have to accept everybodies points of points of view as per a face to face discussion, if you find you can't agree, say your piece and move on, simple really.

I am sure people will come and go and the OP will probably return when the he needs something.

Only joking, like you if I find a thread or attitude, or argument I let them get on with it and don,t read any more of that thread, the back button works every time  .

He returned not long after saying i'm out of here

Don't know, but its fun , nothing on TV so just joined in :giggle:

Are there no moderators on this forum ? I like a laugh and a joke, good debate, wind-up or whatever....but please ...its all getting bit distasteful !

I am out of here....

You seem to be getting into some sort of flap there mate

But he HAS generated a wonderful thread to follow on. Fun for all of us!!

You cant read a thread on this forum without some boring boring innuendo. With Sidney 'Bulldog' James and Hattie 'Marie' Jacques....this could on and on and on. Funny the first time, maybe the second...but three threads later ....ummmmmm....NO. !!! REALLY...NO !!! If I leave the computer on (half way through a thread) turn my back to make a coffee...and then find my children reading the comments made....its not good.

If you cant get your 'Yeti' gear knob into first gear......thats because your on the wrong website, or your over seventy and can only find sexual pleasure on a Yeti forum. LOL

Maybe MCAMRA has got a point.

I like a bit of banter as much as the next person, and admit to "liking" some of the posts he is complaining about.

Never really gave it a thought though about young children having access (and I have 3 young Grand Kids who are always on my PC), so with hindsight maybe, just maybe he might just be correct.

Thing is, it is not just the "oldies" having a joke around on here, as we now have a female joining in with the banter (and very welcome she is I might add) - which does somewhat get some on here very excited.

Please don't have a go at me, as have had enough of that lately on here re other matters!

error

Having read the offending thread, I would offer the following regarding kids reading the content.

1. If kids are old enough to read what has been written and understand the nuances therein, then I would suggest that they hear much worse and more explicit stuff in the playground.

2. If they are younger than the age required above, and if there is still a chance that they would understand what has been written and can operate a computer to the extent of navigating a forum then users with kids in this age bracket should take more precautions with their computer.

Generally speaking those that indulge in the double entendre are well known to the rest of us, so we can either ignore or not as is our choice.

This forum like all the others I have used over the years has a broad mix of threads covering a wide range of subjects. There are also other sections within this site where (I am led to believe) there are even more "racy" subjects discussed.

Each to his own!

One very petty thing I have seen on other forums (which doesnt happen here [often] thankfully) is where a nooby posts a question which has been asked many times before and gets flamed by some old lag who knows it all and instead of remembering where they came from posts the stock reply "Search is your friend"

Surely if children can access the internet, then there are a lot worst things they can find than the Yeti forum?

I'm not really to aware of these odd names being thrown around, Joan Crawford or whatever, Now those jokes are obviously for older members....

I'm not over seventy(early 30's actually), I am on here because I own a Yeti, and there is no better source of information on the subject than here.

A forum isn't only a 'user's guide' for a particular subject, but an online community, yes a lot of threads have the odd innuendo thrown in as a joke, but they are easily bypassed, and if I, for instant am suffering from an issue regarding my Yeti, as well as finding honest advice from other users, it's quite nice to have a distraction or laugh thrown in whilst I search for the 'answer'.

I like to think we have a really broad range of characters on here, and yes there can occasionally be the odd heated comment, or snap of frustration, but I would like to think if I met most other users in real life, they would be good, genuine, 'normal' people, who I could get on well with.

I think it is a sign of the times, that people having a giggle on an internet forum suddenly are told that they are having a negative influence on children?!?!?!?!? Not in my day....

Geez, chill out, and save the planet by putting your PC on power save when you turn your back. THINK OF THE CHILDREN!:bandit::devil:

That's told me then!

I am lost in all this madness, I don't even know what thread you are referring too, I must also add I don't want to as whatever I typed is typed and has been read if it offended anybody then so be it.

If you have an issue with anything I post ignore it or PM if you feel that strongly about it.

Now on with my life because it is short enough without worrying about the feelings of the few.

It was nothing you said - it was (& still is) the "Rear Bumper Protector" thread.

WHAT ???????????????????????????????????????????????.....do you realise the stupidity of what your saying ?

Thanks 'Truthseeker'

WHAT ???????????????????????????????????????????????.....do you realise the stupidity of what your saying ?

I believe so,

Less power being used by PC, when you're not using it, means less use of environmentally unfriendly power generating sources, therefore creating less pollution and a better world for our children(well not mine)

Chilling out was meant in a 'relax' way, but not having a PC on full blast when not using it, produces less heat energy as well

The geez, was meant in a sigh like way, and the picture thingy's relate to a hidden man(me) taking advice from both an angel and the devil (it takes all sorts)

I think that about sums up that line?

Thanks 'Truthseeker'

Actually what he is saying that children, among other things, are used as a wedge to get people to shut up and do what they are told.

Edit:- sorry i should have said what i thought he was saying was... in fact he meant something else :)

You can't have a sensible conversation about overly broad legislation, as an example, because it is there to protect children.

The same applies to other "hot topic" buzzwords because you are protecting terrorists.

ISP's, as an example are under increasing pressure to put filters in the network for Child pornography, general pornography and lately "terrorist" sites.

People don't appreciate that when you put technology in the network that can do this it places a wedge that allows for "other things" to be filtered.

Lately there has been a rash of "fnarr fnarr" comments and some have been very funny and others have passed me by. I have not seen anything more off colour than "carry on" type gags.

They are simply not corrupting or any sort of danger to kids. Their "dirtyness" is entirely in the mind of the reader and as a parent and a junior school governor they would either be quite incomprehensible or too dull for them even to pay attention. In my view there is no moral issue but the current volume is approaching tedious. certainly no reason to get het up.

I really think the world is going too PC, with too much worrying about what others think or if you might offend. With this in mind I would suggest you go to netflix or lovefilm or even your DVD shelf and watch blazing saddles. In this film free speech is used a lot.

No, what I am saying is that the 'Internet' is visible to everyone regardless of age, gender or race...and people (especially the older generation) dont realise this....especially with the dawn of tablets, mobile phones...and whatever next that 'Apple' decides to invent for us..because internet access is everywhere and is accessible to everyone.....and yes very young children.

You would not have these conversations in front of children/women...but you are. You are not stood up against a bar in your local pub with no one listening. The idea that just because its a 'car website/forum' means that 'anything goes' you can have that 'manly' banter because cars are just for 'men'. Women buy cars too.......but I dont think (SWMBO......horrible term !!!) many come to this website for advice....unless its about 'her flaps' yawn...yack, yack, yack, yack., yawn.

I think you are the minority MCAMRA, when people post on a forum they do so with what they want, if you feel Briskoda is not appropriate for your children or wife then you should set your router or parental filter to filter it out, 96574 members can't be asked to post nice things that you like.

What do you and your family watch on the TV, or read in the newspaper, for example page 3 could be offensive but is still printed.

Please GOD think of the children?! Won't SOMEBODY think of the children?!?

(Was that too dramatic?)

I think you are the minority MCAMRA,

Yep...big sigh.....I dont see many women (or....'SWMBO'....Mary Whitehouse would be so proud of such a term !) coming to my defense....but how many 96574 Briskoda members are women ???.....a lot of 'Kenneth Williams'...maybe !!!
