Rear bumper protector

Featured Replies

Have just ordered the rear bumper protector together with the bonding agent. Anyone any experience/tips for fitting. Also the door sill protectors.

I have put both the rear sill protector and door sill ones on my Yeti recently. No problems so far, just added a bit more double-sided 3M tape to product than it came supplied with.

Put the rear protector on with supplied tape and I added extra double sided trim tape but still came off after 3 months. Was afraid to use the bonding agent. Now back to standard bumper with no trim.

Haven't fitted rear protector,( down Bob) but when fitting door sill protectors, you can buy templates, but I didn't bother. Make sure area clean using all surface cleaner or similar find ideal position and mark with masking tape or non permanent marker. I just used the sticky pads provided, and placed in marked positions job done.

Door sill protectors fitted and no issues. Trouble is with the rear is it is open to the elements. No doubt the bonding agent will work fine, but it is a permanent fix and I am a bit cack handed with anything sticky in a tube - usually ends up everywhere.

Me too

Tiger seal FTW

Fitted the rear bumper protector on ours. The item listing didn't mention any bonding agent so I wasn't aware it was a belt and braces job till the strip came and I read the instructions. Didn't want to wait nor use No Nails so just thoroughly cleaned the bumper, marked the positioning "dry", and risked it using just the sticky foam pad it comes with.

Done some mileage since, including France, and seems rock solid.

I've done some mileage too ... it isn't as solid as it used to be I fear :giggle:

Bob - you are awful but I like you!

Yes you need to fit the bumper protector with Tiger seal glue or something similar, the 3M double sided tape is only there to help position and hold in place until the glue sets. If you do not seal it with glue water will get underneath it and it will lift. I know this well as I nearly lost mine using the 3M tape only and it was only a chap following me who jumped out of his car and warned me that a piece of metal was flapping around on my bumper. The slightest tug and it was off. I fitted new 3M tape, Tiger glue between this and refitted, no problems since

The slightest tug and it was off.

You can get a spray to help cure that ... or just try to think of something else.

Umm, I was going to say I'll have to give mine a tug...

If you want a double entendre, I can be relied upon to give you one.

Check out the "Carry on Yeti" thread - think it's to do with this topic.

Just passing it on, so don't shoot the messenger

I cleaned the area using Isopropyl Alcolhol and they're still in place.

With my new Yeti arriving soon,  any up-to-date recommendations re: rear bumper protectors and door sill protectors?  Are the bumper protectors for the FL Non-outdoor and the outdoor  Yetis the same?

FL Non-outdoor and the outdoor need different bumper protectors. I used http://www.rearguards.co.uk/ and am very pleased with the product. It gives good coverage of the bumper, rolling over the rear edge.

I have used them for 3 cars. Very good service.

Thanks for the info....I've ordered their bumper protector and door sill protectors.

The genuine Skoda bumper protector is a work of art, and matches the other silver effects on the Outdoor model beautifully...

Agreed. But it does not protect the rolled edge of the the bumper that is subject to being knocked.
