New car

Featured Replies

Hi folks, just testing the water here, as you will normally find me in the mk1 octy section. I am going to have a look at a mk 2 octavia sport Tdi pd 140 on a 2007 plate. with 42k miles

Is there anything i need to look out for specifically on this model? all help gratefully received.post-72179-0-67790600-1366379562_thumb.jpg

Make sure the air con works as compressors fail. Check for water in the spare wheel well due to leaks. Check the rear wiper works. Check the cruise control works if it has it, switches can be dodgy but an easy fix. Check timing belt has been done. Check for serious wear on the inner edges of rear tyres, it may need an alignment if they're bad.

Thanks for the reply. Should i notice big improvements in the way it drives etc over an old 90bhp mk1?

I haven't driven a mk1 but I'd be very surprised if the newer car isn't a nicer drive, and you will definitely feel the extra 50hp.

Just got to twist mrs arm now. she wants me to get a mondeo 2.0tdci zetec instead. I feel a bout of selective hearing coming on, although it does look quite nice and a heated front screen is fantastic in winter. What to do what to do?

Watch for DMF clatter/judder too. You'll notice a big difference in power compared to your 90bhp Mk1......it should be worlds away in that regard.

One thing I'd be very wary about is the mileage of the car you've found. 42,000 miles is very low for a 6 year old 2.0 TDI.....only 7000 miles/annum........check the service history and MOT history carefully, and look for signs of wear on the inner door pulls.....that seems to be the only place on the inside of an Octavia that shows high mileage wear.....the rest of the interior stands up very well to high mileages.

....Oh. and don't buy a Mondeo......if you need a car that big, you should also consider the Superb.

We had a mondy with a heated screen which was impressive if you're parked up away from home, but a watering can of warm water does the same job if you're not. I was told by my previous insurance company when I rang up to get a stone chip fixed in the Seat that they had a maximum price they would pay if it needed replacing which didn't cover heated screens so you could use this as a lever if yours won't cover you ;)

The octy has a bigger boot for her shopping too!

Its one owner from new with full dealer history, and for sale by the dealer too.. Do they still have the sticky vane turbo problem like some of the mk 1's? not that mine is blighted with that problem

Go for it you won't regret it. I've had mine for 3 years now. Only major problem has been the abs pump/ecu issue and a wheel bearing. I've removed the back box on mine allows turbo to spool up a bit quicker. Apart from that its standard, puts a smile on my face every time.

Neither of which is a guarantee of genuine mileage.

Last year I viewed a 2005 Octavia at the dealer with Full history etc. 2 owners from new, the previous one being a Vicar. But it was still clocked....most likely just before it's first MOT, so the MOT history check looked fine. Severly worn inner door pulls were the only sign along with very patchy service history for the first 3 years of it's life. .......I only noticed the doors as I aready owned a MkII Octavia, so know what they should look like.

When I pointed this out to the dealer they just tried to offer me an extended warranty. I walked, but they evidently agreed with me, as the car was pulled from sale on the Skoda website later that day!
