Hi all, my fronts are coming to the point that they need changing.

After reading here and doing a fair bit of browsing im stuck as to which tyres too go for.

So i was hoping to get some feedback from fellow fabia owners and maybe other skoda owners regarding their expriences.

I did'nt fancy paying the price tag to fit more contis. So ive look at mid range tyres (£60-£80)

I think ive narrowed it down to 3

Falken ZE914

Avon ZZ3

Or

Maxxis Z1

Now I'm on the motorway commuting most of the time, but weekends are spent in town and on A-roads

I like to push the car from time to time in the wet and dry (obviously i don't push it too much on a wet day, i learnt my lesson in my first years of driving lol)

So for me id like a tyre that preforms well in dry and wet, conditions but i don't want something that's going to wear out quickly. Noise too me isn't a massive issue as most of the time i have music on so don't really notice tyre noise

So based on the rating (which if I'm honest I don't trust) I'm leaning the way of the Falkens

Any feedback or past experiences would be a big help

hi im sorry i cant help with your question :( mine are coming up to changing too and i was wondering how many miles youve done on yours...?

sorry and thanks :)

personally I go with the maxxis Z1's, I have used them alot, and have them on now... they rock...

only downside going from your post is your motorway journeys, the massive lateral grip given by the maxxis is due to the massive shoulder blocks... this is all good, but creates noise, if you don't like music on the drone they give may be annoying...

I have also used the avons (on my mark I fabia vRS) and they gripped well in wet and dry, but I got a vibration when they were half worn, I thought it could be a wheel bearing or suspension... the garage said there was nothing wrong, so by definition it HAD to be the tyres, went to the tyre place, they took off one of the fronts, told me it had gone "oval" and could have blown at any time (it had a crack on the inside of the tyre between the wall and tread (obiously impossible to see unless you remove the tyre and look inside!)

don't know about the falkens, havent used 'em :)

Im on about 35k

Im on about 35k

Are the current Conti's the original factory fit :wonder:

Done well if so; my experience of the brand has always been of fairly high wear and so so grip, particularly in the wet.

Our Monte has Dunlop Sport Max; not popular with some I understand but been happy with them myself and much better than the Conti Premium Contact 2 on the previous Elegance.

Cannot comment on your choice, other than to say I had a set of Maxxis on a previous Corsa (bought it that way) and I wasn't that impressed. Avon's until recently I would have been happy with but I'm currently awaiting the outcome of a manufacturer investigation, after a set of their winters started to age very prematurely.

We have the Dunlop sport maxx on our Fabia, they were really good at Castle Combe especially when hot they crumbed like an F1 tyre lol.

On your choice above I can only comment on Avon ZZ3's, I used these on the Fabia when I did a track day in the wet, they gave good feel through the steering wheel and let go progressively with a smooth controllable slide however these will be a softer compound and will not last as long as you OEM fitted tyres.

what about Uniroyal rainsports ?

Im not entirely sure :/ i picked the car up in 18,000miles the pervious owner had been a lady. So i doubt she wouldmof worn the fronts out that quickly then again i didnt expect them to last 36k neither :/ its the inner edge that is closing on the wear bar

Little more then i want to pay altho the reviews look good

I was going to suggest Uniroyal Rainsporst 2's too. I have them on my Mk1 Furby and love them. On my second pair too. Mine worked out as £150 a pair after fitting (205/45 16). Bought them from Camskil last year.

Id go for Goodyear Efficient Grip they are a very good all rounder.

I havnt had them on a Fabia but I have used them on my last 4 Octavias.

My last one was a 1.8 TSi and I did push it very hard in all weathers and all kinds of roads and I do around 50k a year.

I would say in the last 8 years I have done ovr 200,000 miles on Goodyear without a problem.

They will be going on my Superb when it needs new ones.
