Skoda UK getiing hard noised

SUK v's DTD

I see that DTD are no longer able to offer quotes for any Skoda models on their site.

Contacted DTD direct and was told that Skoda dealers were not able to offer any competitive deals that would allow DTD to offer their products. At present they do not know when and if they will be able to offer price quotes for Skoda.

Noted that AutoeBid UK are still able to offer quotes, but for how long.

Is this the start of a clamp down by manufacturers to strangle the price market.

Watch this space.

Very interesting! Thanks for posting

Strange though, as just in the past few days Which? were reporting some very good deals on the Yeti. These were with brokers other than DTD, so are SUK tightening up generally (doubt it as it would breach EU rules) or have they got a particular beef with DTD? (or the other way around perhaps??)

You can get a well specified Merc E class for less than a skoda superb, so why would you go for a skoda at the moment.

I'm sure it's all about protecting revenue and making sure that the wins that skoda have had over the golf in a certain magazine, don't hurt the sales too much.

That or bringing them up market, so that they hold their values better and become another premium "family man" focused version of VW.

All brand's dealerships are struggling and under pressure from the manufacturers to maintain order levels whilst franchise fees are rising so they need to make more per car.

I doubt skoda are the first or last to shun the likes of DTD, nor will they be the last.

why would you want a Merc?

E Class prices are from £32k

Superb prices are from £19k

What spec are you looking at?

I was under the impression that the car brokers are just tolerated by the importers and the importers don't supply their cars. The cars that the brokers act as agents for are sourced from dealers (against the wishes of the importer?). The dealers that supply the cars are doing so at cost or at a loss and are relying on support and bonuses from the importer for acheiving/exceeding their sales targets.

Skoda can only make so many cars for the UK market, Skoda UK place the orders to fully utilise the production capacity at the factory. Given Skodas success and Skoda UKs push for volume and offloading more cars than ever into the fleets there are going to be fewer cars available to the dealers. Fewer cars with increasing demand means that the dealers can sell them, rather than offloading them a cost/loss through a broker.

Ditto my E Class was £38k 11 years ago and was a lower spec than my Superb Elegance imo
