+ 1 for anthracite too many blue ones but still a nice golour

Strangely enough, I actually saw one today on the road and immediately thought it looked cool and nicely understated.

Nice choice. If I was in the market again for a VRS, it would be a serious contender.

When I was buying my Octy a couple of years ago Anthracite was my first choice. Blue was too common and white was getting that way too.

Very pleased with my decision.

PM'd a few suggestions to you.

I have anthracite also, its awesome in the sunlight! assuming you guys get sun over there :p

anyway, the bad side is that it can look dirtier than it actually is. just makes me wash it more frequently.

Another shout out for the yellow....race blue is standard on the Mk3 so it'l be even more common as muck soon which is a shame.

Sorry but any kind of grey is just boring boring boring. Apart from a deep graphite with metallic flake, that does look really good.

No I am afraid you have made the classic mistake of swapping a strong blue for a weak grey. Bit like the tories did with Thatcher and Major. You won't convince anyone its any better, I'm afraid. And in many ways its worse. HTH

As it's been mentioned, colour is a personal choice - and that is why there is a long list of variants in the brochure.

Race blue is arguably the definitive vRS colour - they look good but are quite common and do stand out. I actually like the Anthracite on the vRS - it's extremely understated and would probably have chosen that or the black if I'd had that option available when I ordered my Blackline.

There's no one trying to convince anyone,I'm just looking for opinions. And it's a deep grey with metallic flakes :) also grey is not boring in certain cars.

Anthracite,.. Definitely understated. I've seen blue, white & red VRS's, but yet to spot another anthracite. Besides, everyone that has been in my car have remarked on what a nice shade of grey it is. Have to clean it every week, though

Anthracite for me as well, just looks a bit classier, Once the Chavs get hold of the older ones as prices drop there will be loads of Halfordized blue ones around

I also think the Blue makes the car look bigger

I was looking for a Blue, got an anthracite and am very happy. Looks great in the sun

Rather than telling you which colour I prefer I'll list my thoughts instead...

Race blue is a popular colour on a rare car - so in my eyes is still a rare colour.

Race blue is a nice bright colour so stands out all year, even on the dullest winters day.

Race blue doesn't have to be really clean to still look good.

Race blue is 'the vRS' colour (or at least it was until the launch of the MkIII Octavia).

Anthracite is a rare colour on a rare car.

Anthracite is an understated / stealth colour.

Anthracite tends to blend in with the crowd.

Anthracite is a posh word for metallic grey.

Anthracite looks great when paired with the sunset privacy glass on the estate.

My only advice is that f you weren't sold on the colour from day one then hold out for the vRS you really want to live with.

^^ Where did you get the"Rare" color on a "Rare" car bit from??

Race Blue Vrs's are as common as muck around here.

Nothing rare about a vRS although I do not see many anthracite ones. Sunset glass looks fabulous in this colour.

Its a nice colour, I went for white because it didnt cost anything and i liked the contrast between the white paint and black wheels on my car.

If i'd have not bought a white one woukd have definitely been one of the greys or black. The newer ligher Platin Grey is very nice, looks good with the black wheels.

Red, yellow, green and race blue dont really float my boat. Also I'm not overly enamoured with the design of Neptune alloys (actually think the 18" Zeniths looked nicer) in silver but for me they look great in black.

For the UK, full year 2012 sales...

Skoda sold 53,602 cars out of a total of 2.04 million.

That gives them a market share of just 2.6%.

Take into account the remaining factors such as...

1) the figure above is for all Skoda models, not just the Octavia,

2) that the vRS isn't the highest volume selling model in the Octavia range,

3) and there are other colours available in addition to race blue...

...which confirms that the Octavia is a rare car in the UK,

...which confirms the vRS is an even rarer car in the UK,

...which confirms that a race blue vRS is even rarer still.

Its well known that you are much more likely to notice other cars on the road that are the same as the one you drive, but it certainly doesn't make them "common as muck".

I'd say that even if every car Skoda UK sold was a race blue vRS then at 2.6% you'd still be driving a rare car.

The fact that it's likely to be less than 1% I think its safe to say your driving a rare car, what ever colour it is!

Those figures mean nothing

Where I Iive there are at least 10 octy vRS

out of those.

You have my red one

My old white one

My sons Black one.

The rest of them are blue

so,

Around here they are as common as muck

Those figures mean nothing.

OK :giggle:

Clearly a joker... 2.6% is 1 in 40 cars - you would see one every 2 minutes on virtually every slightly trafficked road. Even 1 in 1000 cars and you would see one every 3 minutes on a major motorway. Given the number of different cars on sale (even down to the make and model, "Skoda Octavia" level), any car accounting for even 1% is clearly going to be common.

A "rare" car is one you are unlikely to see, not one you are statistically bound to see at least once every journey.

OK :giggle:

You can giggle all you like but do you honestly think you are in an elite group of "Rare" car owners?

To the OP.....................buy the Anthracite but you have to colour code the grill surround and refurb the wheels black, when these steps are taken you will have a very cool looking car!!!!

Say's who?

The definition of rare...

coming or occurring far apart in time; unusual; uncommon

A model of car accounting for less than 1% of all cars on the road is in my opinion unusual and uncommon.

Seeing the same vRS's on your way to work or seeing none at all doesn't mean they are either common or rare.

What exactly is it you are disputing, the definition of rare or the data published by the SMMT?

I'm not convinced by black alloys. Unless you have a love for them OP - proceed down that path only when you are 100% sure.
