ABS LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL

Featured Replies

abs light and traction control come on,mate scanned it yesturday it came up with 00287 ABS rear right-g44 mechanical malfuncion intermittent will i just need a speed sensor or will i need a hub as well anybody enlighten me please

I've got the exact same thing on mine. I've just ordered a new hub but if that doesn't fix it I'll get a new abs sensor.

From what I've read it mostly turns out to be the hub.

I just repaired mine the other week, it was just the hub, picture of the old & new hub here if your interested:

The rusty ring on top is the magnetic bit. When it goes like that, the speed sensor can't get a good reading.

I've heard that sometimes though, the rusty ring can make contact with the speed sensor and damage it too. I had a hub and sensor to hand when doing the work, but only needed the hub (got the sensor refunded).

Tthere's no guarantees that it's the hub or sensor, but most likely the sensor I'd say.

This is the error I had when my ABS, TCS and TPM lights were on, the ABS ring had corroded and needed the hub replaced:

00290 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Rear Left (G46)

008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent

00290 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Rear Left (G46)

003 - Mechanical Failure - Intermittent

Cheers guys thanks for your help i think im going to try the hub first!!

I had -

00290 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Rear Left (G46)

008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent

Hub and sensor were changed.

There was a chunk out of the sensor ring in the hub. It had also expanded a lo with corrosion. VAG specialist was cursing it as a crap bit of design to integrate the ring and hub.

When the ABS ring was faulty on mine occasionally the ABS light would be out but it would come on shortly down the road the same as you've described.

Ill have to see john when i get my hub

I hope it is ring and not dreaded pump!!!!

If the ESP light goes out at all then it's the sensor/hub not the ESP.

I had both and the TPS and ABS light would clear at low speeds or using a code reader but the ESP was on permanently.

ESP isn't the disaster it was. I picked up the repair kit from a dealer via Ebay for £170. + about £100 to fit it. Not nice but better than the £1500 they wanted when the problem first appeared.

Changed hub about an hour ago now drove down road light out everything. Fine??????????????????

I did mine and it went out too, all is fine again. I've bought another hub as the other side is most likely in the same condition.
