What sort of insurance increase can i expect with one of these??

can these boxes be safly used on a 05 fabia vrs, as i belive they changed the softwear they used after the 54 plate??

The beauty of these types of boxes is that they don't change the software in the ECU at all, this type (digital tuning box) just fiddles around with what comes from the MAF sensor, and sends a tweaked signal through to the original ECU, which then 'does' the engine stuff based on that tweaked signal. Mainly overfuelling.

The resistor-based mod is not as good in that it may cause and generally does cause errors.

the power these tuning boxes give is great! instead of having to change from 3rd to 4th to get more power.... the power just keeps coming in third, same goes for 4th 5th and 6th! You can get to 100mph in a matter of seconds without thrashing thru the gear box! The ride is smoother too....

was a bit smokey to beginning with, but ive just put a green filter on which has reduced the smoke!

good thing about these boxes is the fact that u can adjust them from 1 (slow) to 16 (wow) - im sticking to 11!

I was wondering what the feck you 2 where on about as the AMD one click which does boost turbo pressure and fueling only gives you about 30 - 35bhp more :D

surely overfueling will cause premature wear of the cat etc? especially if it isn't getting a richer oxygen mixture...

bah, waddo i know... where's me keys to me octy...

IIRC the CAT on the Fabia vRS is a particle filter which is alot different to a petrol cat so overfueling should be OK but try telling that to Mr Plod when they are following you behind a smog screen :D

I think diesels just push as much air into the cylinders as is available so even with a remap you can't guarantee there'll be enough oxygen. Luckily with a diesel, you don't need a cat to pass emissions though :D

I fitted one to my 2005 vRS last weekend, and all is well so far. I'm going to have a play with the settings this weekend and see what happens.

Thanks Chavy & Scooby ...

(sounds funny to me... maybe I'm losing it)

Reckon I'll stick to the lil ol petrol! :)

There's too much stuff on that Mrhoot website can anyone point out the model used for the fabia vrs?

Also anyone know what kind of an increase on insurance this would cause.

Thanks,

But you should see the look on some peoples faces when they get beaten away from the lights by a diesel towing a one ton caravan :D

So your saying that a car which now weighs 2.5 tons in total with the caravan attached because of a cheap tuning box which produces no more than 160-170 bhp at the most and only around 270 lb/ft of torque can out accelerate most cars? Can it beat a BMW 320d? Seat Ibiza FR TDi? Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDi? even a Renault Clio 1.4 16v?

I think not somehow, unless your comment about "you should see the look on some peoples faces" means they were racing you on foot?

You could probably out-accelerate some things with it, like say my old Rover 100.. But you'd struggle if I really went for it when my car is empty, whereas yours is pulling a caravan.

I'd even get ya in the twisties  as you'd flip your caravan over ;)

The dragon box for the vrs can be found >>>Here<<< .

If you email mr hoot and ask him why he has disappeared off ebay you may get a discount code to bring the price down to the ebay average, instead of the

I think i got the last eBay box. When it arrived and i tried to leave feedback, he'd canceled his eBay registration.

what is the 'ebay average' price for this bit of kit then?

..... does someone fancy being a hero and trying to set up a group buy for these??? come on, you know you want to! :):D

It's easy to out accelerate them...they pull up in the outside lane at the lights next a caravan that is being towed by a diesel skoda! so when the lights turn green they slowly pull away expecting to get ahead easily and they find they are the ones holding up the traffic

To give you some idea of the torque ....on the A30 in Cornwall there are some quite steep hills ..I never dropped below fourth gear (six speed box) and was able to accererate up hill in that gear with the caravan on.

And by the way 160 bhp and 360 nm torque is what the Dragon site quote but most Skoda engines are very underated (most pd 130's have 145 bhp to start with and the digital tuning box will increase that by 30% ....thats why it pulls away so well :D

If you look at the JBS Auto Designs RR day on the 03/04/05 you will see that the highest Fabia vRS on the rollers only got 184.1 bhp and that was with a custom code 1 remap. Remember the JBS rollers are extremly accurate, and if your claim that a standard vRS has 145 bhp turns out to be true that would mean that a tuning boxed one would have 188.5 bhp, obviously every car is different but you can see what I mean :o.

The max you can realistically expect from a tuning boxed vRS is around 155-160 at a push from the expensive digital ones, i'm also sorry to burst your bubble but most vRS's if not all (please correct me if im wrong), do not put out 145 bhp like most people claim, but the factory 128-132.

To list but a few:

Johnny05 Fabia vRS 131.1BHP 231.1ftlb

Wardy Fabia vRS 129.7BHP 223.3ftlb

Andy vRS Fabia vRS 127.7BHP 226.6ftlb

Why do some people get 145 bhp then? Older rolling roads, aren't as accurate.

All I can say is try it ......one ton of caravan on the back of a one ton car with a digital tuning box doesn't slow it down as much as you think it will.....lets put it this way I used to own a 1.9 sdi and with a caravan on the back of my pd130 I could have out accelerated it easily

Have to agree with that.

If you check on many threads before you will find this out.

We also had one with a box on , he did not even know he had one.

Removed it then put a remap on and he was VERY pleased with it.

I couldn't afford a remap so the digital tuning box it was, and Dragon (mr hoot website) boxes do make a very noticable difference (just wish I had got it on a rolling road before I sold it) it only took 4 minutes and 30 seconds to remove and about 6 minutes to reinstall...I also sold it on afterwards, total cost for 6 months of fun motoring

I'm pretty sure most PD130's aren't 145bhp .... ;)
