vrs temp

Featured Replies

Hi all

while driving my vrs the temp gauge starts off getting to 90 degrees and holds there for a while but then sneeks up to 110 before coming down to 100 but seems to keep going up to 110 and then back down.

the other day it did go up to 120 so i am wondering what is a normal temp for a vrs and does there sound like there could be a problem.

Oops, you have a problem. On the gauge it should get to 90 and stay there.

Questions...when was your waterpump last changed, thermostat or coolant temp sensor?

Where u sitting in traffic when it went up?

it does it while driving I have only had the car about 5 weeks the guy I brought it off said he spent £200 replacing the temp sensor and housing.

Isn`t the temp sensor like £12 from skoda?

to be honest i think the guy I brought it off was telling me a few porkys

The thing is, I would really limit my driving with it running at this temperature, if it creeps up past 90, get the heaters on full blast.

Sounds like the thermostat or waterpump needs changing (last one is a costly job).

So when was the cambelt/waterpump changed?

With a faulty temp sender mine has never gone over 90.

I would say waterpump, sorry.

waterpump was done with the cambelt at 79257 miles in 2009 its now at 103,000

Due anyway, every 4 years or 60,000.

Get the full belt kit and pump done pronto!

I would start with the thermostat tbh. It could be sticking.

As said above, get the heaters on full pelt and get it off the road and turned off if it goes up again. Get it sorted asap.

Mine does this too. However I only notice this happens if the "Econ" mode is on the climate control. Or if it's off while I'm stopped in traffic. Timing belt and water pump was just replaced so it's not that. It's a faulty temperature sensor get it scanned for codes as that's what mine is

Again, sounds like your thermostat. Get a genuine one from Skoda/VW.

That's a problem with your fans. Aircon on and the fans come on, aircon off and no fans

I just changed my coolant temp sensor there, easy job took 5 mins. I'll see what the temperature readings say now. I still dont understand the climatronic system! How is it a problem?

Got a thermostat from eurocarparts today will try and fit it Monday unless anyone has an easier fix as looking at it they are not that easy to fit

Fiddly job. You need some good long quarter inch drive bars and universal joint and I think it was a 5mm allen bolt socket.

  • Author

That looks quite easy so there is no need to drain the system first

Nope. Its just a fiddly job but with the right tools makes it much easier.

I changed temp sensor and thermo at the same time and sorted the same problem :) my thermo was a euro one and the new seal is crap tried numerous times but still leaked so had to use the old one in the end .

I used a GSF thermostat and it went tits up after 6 months.

Just an update on my temperature sensor problem. I replaced the coolant temp sensor and it sorted the flying needle on the temperature gauge and also makes it idle a bit smoother too. Could be your problem too!
