RNS510 in octavia VRS 2007

Featured Replies

Thanks all,

Studmuffin, ive looked at these on ebay too and have held off as I couldnt find decent reviews.. let me know what you make of this once you have it and I may go that route if it turns out to be good... are you selling your old one or has it gone already?

The clone one you have does it do the PDC and climate?

I've just sold my VRS Limited Edition on saturday, and just removed the ANS810 unit I've been running for about 6 months, it's a cracking unit and absolutely no problems with it. If you have any questions I can probably answer as I was in regular contact with the manufacturer regarding enhancements and firmware upgrades etc, I received the last firmware update as recently as Sunday. It really is a cracking unit for the money and I did an awful lot of research before purchasing as there are a lot of other units out there that don't come close. Overall I would say it's a big improvement over the Columbus, integrated Bluetooth worked a treat and I also went as far as installing reversing camera, the integration with CAN Bus also worked great with some nice Climate control graphics as per the Bolero/Columbus. Again any questions just ask, note I had to also purchase a replacement trim as I went from a Bolero unit (slight different sized bezel) but I have all the details if you need info. I'm actually about to put mine up for sale.

Riggsy, if you are looking to sell your ANS-810, can you let me know via PM how much you are after? ive found a place in manchester that sells them and ive been in touch with the manufacturer in Shenzhen but im dubious about buying from either..would be interested at the right price to have yours ;-)

Be very careful about the Chinese units, especially buying from China. Yes, some on here like them but there are others, including me, who found out that at least some are just not compatible in at least some Octavias. They cost a fortune to return to China, and at least some Chinese sellers

won't accept them back until you've paid the Chinese import duty. And that's after you've paid return postage. It's long time ago but from memory the post and duty were going to cost me about £50 and it took ages for paypal to sort tbings out on appeal.

You really can't go wrong with a Columbus.

Mike

Totally agree Mike, and fully endorse your comments having fell foul to another unit on my previous Octavia VRS a few years ago, it was terrible and the interface looked like it had been put together by a primary school kid, truly shocking. The ANS unit on the other hand is vastly superior to the Columbus in my opinion and the manufacturer and development team really know what they are doing with this unit, all the displays are a great match for the car and look OEM you wouldn't believe how much research I did before purchasing it. As far as compatibility goes with this unit, straight plug and play, zero issues and some nice graphical displays for parking sensors, climate control, temperature etc. I've just sold Limted Edition No. 331 and the one thing I will miss more than anything is the ANS unit, Bluetooth, Bluetooth music streaming and Sat Nav, unfortunately my new Volvo doesn't give me the opportunity to source something similar :-(

Hey, nice unit, where did you get that from! :-)

I'd say the biggest pain is finding somewhere to fit the mass of cables but a bit of patience and trial and error with the cable positioning the unit is otherwise pretty much plug and play.

Glad you are all sorted mate, if I get any further firmware information I'll forward on, I know they are still working on a few things such as OBD (I think there is a demo screen already in the firmware you have via one of the hidden options) but I think they were talking about an additional module required (approx. £30) to get the necessary data to the ANS.

Anyway, I'm glad you are as impressed as I was, enjoy it!

If anybody is interested I have the trim for the Columbus but for the newer style climate controls, just PM me. I actually have 2 x trim due to a mess up with the order from the parts supplier.

Yeah I wonder where I got that from :-)

Its taken a bit of trial and error but im slowly working things out, ive seen the hidden menu for OBD and its a shame it doesnt use bluetooth to connect to an ELM327 module as I have one of those already!! use android torque at the min via a phone...

If you can forward any firmware updates that would be great..

Thanks again fella, been a pleasure dealing with ya and hope youre enjoying the volvo?

Guys,

I spoke to Icebox auto, seems to be genuine and was going to order from him until I found Riggsy on here selling his ;-)

I love the unit, took a little bit of playing around to figure it all out but ive got there now and have the manual and latest firmware for the ANS810, not sure on the 610 though, i know they look different but imagine the features and operation are the same..

PM me if any of you want the manual Audiosources sent me, also there is another forum called VWwatercooled, there is a guy on there called DKN and he knows his stuff with it.

Im in the process of upgrading my climate to the FL version to get the display working, ill let you all know how it goes

Cool all sounds good. I'm holding out for the new version but it keeps being held back for refinements.

Did you get the firmware for DKN (and have a subscription with him) or direct?

The ANS 610 has identical features as the 810, the only difference is the 610 has a 6 inch screen, the 810 has a 8 inch scscreen. ..

Hi Rob, I got the firmware from Riggsy on here who had been sent it just as I purchased his 810.. ive spoken to DKN who advised me not to bother upgrading the firmware as the version im on is fine and the updated firmware doesnt add anything for me...

Am I right in thinking you have just got a facia of Riggsy?

Yup got the facia, now just need the unit to be releases

have you already done the climatronic mod? IE face lifted control unit.. I see your VRS is roughly the same year as mine and in the same color so wonder what faceplate you got from him... im having the other one soon ;-)

Keep us posted how you get on with the MFSW and Maxidot.. something I would be thinking of doing too... next on my list is retrofit cruise control!! alot of motorway miles made easier!!!
