Erm, no! I live in Edinburgh, Scotland. I have been a Vauxhall man for about 7 years and fancy a complete change, the vRS gets a fantastic write up from many, many sources - good enough for me!!!

Thanks Hugh. The only dealer I can see is Graham Chathams in Edinburgh - is that where you work? Have you any vRS's for sale right now?

Sorry Rob,

I'm not a dealer just a sad Skoda enthusiast! If its any help though Chatham's do a good job (in my experience so far) and that's where I bought my vRS from and 1.9tdi before that. Ask for Derek and I'm sure you'll be impressed by his manner and helpfulness to get you a car,j ust give him your specifications and he may be able to source you one from Skoda UK.Failing that, there quite a few vRS' up for sale on auto trader.

Best of luck with the search..............

Cheers

Hugh

There's always West End Garage out in Broxburn (Livingston direction). Apparently they have a better showroom now (it couldn't be much worse).

I also bought my RS from Chathams and a Fabia before that. I have full confidence in recommending them.

No problems. I now have the funds to buy a car as of today, so if anyone can help me find an Octavia RS around the Edinburgh area that would be great. I can't buy a brand new one but looking to spend around

RobDon

Its a pity you werent around a month ago , as my old vRS was advertised at my dealer (Tweedmouth Service Station in Berwick) for only

Sounds like I missed a major bargain in your car ... typical!!! I'd have snapped your hand off at

Yeah Id have liked it to go to Edinburgh , the I wouldnt have to see it everyday ......never mind , the 6 numbers might come up one day , then id buy a....911 GT3 RS probably! ;)

Smaller and less well-specced, but cheaper to buy and run (especially being a diesel).

With regard to performance, I'd imagine power-to-weight ratio would be about the same, and choice would come down to preference between driving characteristics of the diesel and petrol engine.

If it was my money, I'd go for an Octavia as you will get much more of a bargain in a second-hand one than in a new Fabia...

Well the RS I was going to look at has been sold before I got a chance to see it! I cannot find another RS for sale within 80 miles of me, says alot for the quality of the RS but doesn't help me! There is one RS 87 miles from me, but because I don't have a car I can't go and see it - frustrating or what!

Going to see about hiring a car for a week to go and look at cars.

I went to see a local SEAT Leon Cupra last night, 51 reg, very nice to drive, 6-speed 'box, same 180BHP 1.8T engine as the RS, didn't feel very fast though. :(

I know there is a 1.8T 4x4 Elegance hatch up for sale at a dealer in Glasgow at the moment as I was giving it admiring glances. It's a 52 plate in Silver and looks rather nice. I believe it is about

It's only the vRS I'm interested in to be honest. If anyone can help me find a good one, great! If I can't find one, I'll probably buy a SEAT Leon Cupra.

Because?

I can never understand the point of 'if i cant buy it now, i'll buy something else instead'... Isn't the point that you really want a particular car, and drive around in it for 3+ years or however long? And every morning when you get into it you smile? Wouldnt you remind yourself everyday for those 3+ years that the car you drive is not the car you wanted?

Patience is a virtue

And regret it for how long?

Hang tight my friend

Andy

My local dealer recons if I wait until September, when the new registrations come out, there may be a few second hand vRS Octavias coming on to the market...

They certainly seem few and far between at the moment and the prices at some dealers are a little too high.

I wouldn't regret buying a Leon Cupra at all, really nice car. Don't know if I can wait until September before buying another car, need something to transport my kids around! I've still not even seen an RS up close, never mind driven one!

I agree, RobDon - buy whatever car fits the bill NOW. Skodas are not sacred, any more than Seats. Get what's available, and lights your fire. Brand loyalty is bullsh1t!!!

Nick, we're not talking about brand loyalty here. How can you be loyal if you've never driven/owned a Skoda before? The thing I wanted to point out is that if you want something, going for second best will always leave a funny taste behind.

Right - and my point is that RobDon has driven a Leon Cupra, and liked it, so if he needs a car now he might as well buy it, rather than waiting months for something he's not even seen or driven. After all, it's basically the same car :)

Without being drawn into a flaming war, my point is that RobDon states that the vRS is the only Octy he is interested in, but later says he hasnt even seen one up close let alone test drive one.Are vRS not held by dealers as demos? Surely there must be a dealer nearby to him that can show him one , if not a test drive?

I would still say that he should buy what he really wants rather than what is just available at that precise moment, unless need is greater than want in which case any car will do surely?

Anyway, just my thoughts but at the end of the day it matters not to me which way it all goes, just as long as he is happy with his choice.

Cheers

Andy

Fayre enuff - it's his decision at the end of the day :) Sometimes you just need a car, though ...

Easy guys! The bottom line is if I can't find an RS within my location/price bracket then I have to find something else - the SEAT is all VW parts and build quality too, so I don't consider it inferior at all - the Cupra has a 6-speed 'box too!

If there was a silver RS locally for

Hi Rob,

Not wishing to harp on about Chatham's, Edinburgh but have you given them a call yet?PM me if you are interested as I am pretty sure the guys I deal with there would be able to help,I could leave you a couple of names to contact. If you've already tried that's fine but I can't believe they would help in assiting to to get your car.

Cheers

Hugh

P.S Not in any way linked with them, just in my experience so far they have been really good.
