Take a look at skoda.co.uk's used car search. There's a black 51 plate RS in Dumfries for 11.5k.

Rob,

if you are going down the Leon route you might want to ask Ecklad (I think?) what are the pros and cons of ownership as he was a Cupra owner (2 I believe).

I can pretty much guess there'll be a few cons but I'm sure there'll be some pros as well.;)

I must admit quite liking the Leon Cupra; it was on my list of possibles. In the end interior and boot space seemed a lot smaller than Octy. Sat in Steve's Cupra R (carpboy) a couple of weeks ago; nice!.

Both nice cars and good value for money although I reckon the Octy's better built and has more space.

Good luck with your hunting and decision making.

Cheers.

Adrian.

Yeah, but it is black - I swore I'd never buy another black car ever again!

I just have to go with what's available at the time which is right now. I'm going to see another Cupra tomorrow, this one has full black leather interior with electric seats - if there are no suitable RS's around right now, I have to go for the next best thing, which in my eyes is the Leon Cupra.

Interior and boot space in the Leon are fine for my needs.

I did post a similar message yesterday but it seems to have disappeared - strange.......anyway, I would recommend talking to Chathams - I went along for a test drive in an RS (which I believe one of our members now owns!!) and it sold me on the car. I didn't get mine from them as it was a company purchase but they were very helpful - so must be worth a try. Where are you in Edinburgh - there are a few of us around if you want to try and see one. (yes - and mine's black as well!!)

Cheers

Ross

Welcome RobDon,

A common problem amongst all VAG groups are the coil packs (will be replaced under warranty, but can be scary/hassle if they go), so just have the dealer confirm it has them replaced (all 4 of them).

Q.

Quinten,

As my dealer refused to change the other three at my 20k service after one failed at 12k I am curious to know why you say the dealer shoud have replaced them. This implies if a vRS is sold without all four changed then it has not been serviced right.

Skoda policy is NOT to change them whereas Audi /VW policy IS to change them. Does the policy vary beteen dealers perhaps?

Chris

Chris

Audi/VW policy is not to automatically replace -- not yet anyway,we are only allowed to replace all 4 on severely effected vehicles(i.e more than 5 fitted previously) -- or via special authority from Audi customer services.

There is apparently a "Workshop Service Campaign" around the corner - which will mean automatic replacement of all coil packs(regardless of previous replacement) when a vehicle is brought into the workshop -- for whatever reason, don't know as yet when this will be - expect sometime back end of the year - once the Americans have got theirs sorted first.

I live in South Gyle in Edinburgh, I'll pop into Chathams sometime this week and see if they can source any RS's for me.

Sorry Chris to have mislead you. I was recommending that you use this coil pack replace as a bargaining condition. When I bought mine I asked specifically about the packs and when the dealer confirmed they were replaced by the previous owner that was the end of it (for me). If however the dealer had said, no they havent been replaced, I would have then insisted they'd be replaced or I would take my business elsewhere. It's not like it is costing them lots of money to replace them, but if you brake down due to coil pack failure the trouble caused is much higher.

Q.

Ross,

Not wishing to hijack RobDon's thread but I was wondering if the Scottish meet ever took place or is likely to take place? Not wishing to put the onus on you for setting one up, just thought I'd enquire if you had heard anything or knew when it was to take place etc.

If we had one maybe it would be the chance for RobDon to see a few vRS' at first hand.

Cheers

Hugh

Chatham's have got a Laurin & Klement 51 reg in silver, says a 1.8 engine - I assume this is the 150BHP 1.8 20v turbo engine going by the brochure? It appears to be fully loaded with everything including xenons, leather/alcantara etc.

Indeed, and if it's a 1.8T, chippable to 220bhp.... Suspension a bit softer than the VRS, but otherwise pretty much the same car.

I'm trying to keep an open mind to what I want. Long journeys are not really possible for me due to family constraints, I have to find something in or around the city. The L&K does sounds really nice, although I've never really been into beige interiors - but as I said, an open mind!

Going to see it tomorrow.

At least it should be easier on the insurance, and less desirable by the local/traveling thieves.

Cheers

Andy

Surely your local dealer should be able to source an appropriate car from somewhere in the UK. See this quote on the Skoda UK website used car section:

"This list is updated regularly, but if there isn't quite the car you are looking for please give your nearest Retailer a call. We do have access to a wide choice of vehicles direct from Skoda UK."

Or a variation on the theme from my local dealer's site:

"SHOULD WE NOT HAVE YOUR PREFERED CHOICE OF CAR WE WILL DO OUR UTMOST TO LOCATE IT FOR YOU . WE HAVE ACCESS TO A LARGE SELECTION OF USED CARS VIA THE SKODA STOCK LOCATER SYSTEM"

As far as I am away there is something about cross border swaps that are quite hard to do. Scotland to England is far harder as all the Scottish Dealers don't like sending their cars back south especially new ones!

Sorry guys - but I couldn't source a vRS anywhere and time was running out for me to find a car, so I bought a SEAT Leon Cupra today. Went and spoke to West End Skoda and they couldn't help me, so it had to be the next best thing which was only 4 miles from me.

Still a cracking car that I'm more than happy with, shame I couldn't buy a vRS as that's what I really fancied - maybe next time eh!
