Vrs to get new e-diff?

Featured Replies

Anyone know if the vrs will get the same electronic differential as per the golf gti option pack?

It's about £1000 option on the golf and a very trick bit of kit IMO

Nothing confirmed yet, no. But I'd certainly be amazed if it was standard. You're much more likely to have to fork out a tidy sum for it.

...or they may hold it back and not offer it on the VRS at all - seperating them in the market place further.

An electronic diff was standard on the MK2 VRS.

Not as per the OP's question - like the new one on the Golf Mk7 GTi Performance model. The diff is said to be very good indeed on the mk 7 :)

It's a mechanical LSD on the Golf.

Isn't it called Adaptive Chassis Control.?

No. Thats VW's term for their adjustable dampers.

I know I edited it, but the LSD that is part of the performance pack is mechanical not electronic.

mechanical (ish) as its got electronic torque vectoring gubins in it.

Very clever kit and up until recently only found on rally cars, then super cars.

a simple ATB woudl suffice but i'm very interested to see how one performs in a golf, or better of course a VRS!

Its an electronically controlled mechanical diff lock made by Haldex.

The new Golf Mk 7 GTI is reputed to be an amazing piece of kit, chassis signed off by the engineer that did the same for the Porsche 997 GT3 RS one of the finest drivers cars ever made. The performance pack which includes the trick diff, + 10 bhp and bigger discs is the icing on the cake

Apparently, with the performance pack, you get ZERO understeer on the new GTI.

Very very unlikely. The GTi needs a USP to justify its upmarket pretense.......also I dont think VAG will give Skoda any opotunity for the vRS to drive as well as a performance pack GTi.

i used to run an alfa gta fitted with a Q2 (alfas mechanical atb LSD diff) - very impressive indeed hence the query of the electronically controlled clutch pack LSD fitted to the performance pack.

I've just specced up a mk7 on line and basically to get the same spec as my vrs (plus the diff) your looking at £32k! ouch!

In the Octavia III owners manual, page 133 mentions the "Electronic Differential Lock (EDL)". From that, we know it's at least going to be an option (somewhere at least, hopefully it's available to the UK market). Even better if included as standard in the vRS, but I can't see it - more likely to be a £900-ish option I reckon.

Mk3 owners manual here, if you've not seen it (PDF format):

Electronic diff lock used to be vag speak for traction control using the brakes.

Like the XDS the Fabia 2 vRS has?

I thought this new diff was a mechanical limited slip diff but it was somehow electronically activated? Mechanical diffs are far superior to an XDS setup.

Yes, as in post no. 10
