Could you PM me?

Also just a quick question in relation to my currenty Jabba map, for the time being will it compensate for the FMIC or do I really need to get it back to them pronto?

The 'crash bar' s its called is actually a bumper mounting bar and actually has very little in the way of reinforcement, its just a single skin steel construction and folds up at the slightest nudge.

so 'adjusting my 'bumper support bar' wouldn't really affect the crash safety of my car :rubchin:

Not "pronto" no!

Note Col is now running the Forge FMIC, but has not nipped back to JBS, yet has seen good improvements. The FMIC WILL improve the performance on your current map, but it might be worth a few extra bhp going back to Jabba again

a before and after rollin road test would have been interesting!

Personally I'd expect the effect to be:

1. During the summer, fairly calm driving - less smoke?

2. During any time, accelerating hard through the gears - better performance as it keeps the intake temps low(er)

3. Allow more aggressive remap as temps are lower?

My plan is to fit as many mods as my current insurance company will tolerate without a problem. I do this via my broker as they will have a written record of everything so i can't get scr*wed by a verbal agreement beforehand followed by a written denial..

I'd be surprised if they allowed FMIC, but a replacement exhaust system may be allowed, will have to ask :)

Assuming they allow it, I will then save up for a FMIC + custom remap assuming I can find an insurer :D

Sorry if this sound a bit thick, but as i havn't had my vrs yet i wouldn't know. doesn't the standard fabia vrs have any type of air intercooler as standard? Is this an air intercooler for chipped vrs? will it help a standard vrs?

It has a smaller intercooler mounted in the o/s/f.

Well after a chance to "test" :D the fmic over the weekend @ brunters in 32c outside temps, and the improvement is huge!. it just keeps pulling and pulling!

shame the marshals wouldnt let me use the lapdog to get some logging done :(

but it gets a full :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: 5/5 from me.. a must for a remapped TDI :D

Sounds very good col, shame you couldn't get some data. I had a brisk drive on sunday, my god did it smoke like hell, it did keep pulling but I left behide my only smoke screen (great for loosing the badies!!). It may have been slower than normal though it didn't seem it as I'd been driving a very slow 418 all week

Colin - is the smoke reduced a lot as well then?

On a hot day - yes it reduces it alot. also reduces smoke on full bore when your revving the nuts off it :D

The smoke on hot days like this is caused by the ECU backing off the turbo boost due to high temperatures..

it also seems to improve fuel economy during the summer too. :)

Nice one :)

I think boost always stays the same, but ECU compensates for the increased fuel temperature and injects more fuel to keep power constant..

What the hell is it? Never heard of Fmic but I am new to this forum !!

For the amount of expense and time, what difference will it make?

Front Mounted Inter Cooler

Puts more airflow across more surface area to cool the charge air prior to combustion.

Cooler air = greater expansion = more power

Well... im back from a bit of testing @ stealth...

The test was mainly to test the 40mm core i had on first, and a 50mm core.

On the dyno, there was no difference between the two, so im running this 50mm now to see how it performs.

heres a sneaky bit of info.... while on a power run on the dyno, intake temp only hit 45c.. and that was at the end of the run... sooo.. 10 seconds at full throttle on load, and only a 15c temp rise! :D

oh, and my RR results were around 184bhp and 305lb/ft ;) thats average over 4 runs

Just a note worth making, all turbo powered Octavia II's now have FMIC's fitted as standard. So if the manufacturers do it it must give results..lol

Colin,

Did I hear talk of a 60mm one too?

Do we know when the kit is going to be available?

45c sounds impressive as IIRC they can get up to nealry double that with SMIC.

We decided that a 60mm is a bit overkill.. plus it will sit too near to the air con rad..

Yes 60mm is perhaps OTT... and the availability date - was there talk of a group buy?

:D

Indeed, GB would be good as I'm trying to get Milltek GB sorted (well, not me, I'm just ordering it). Ideally a single trip to JBS would be made, where they'd fit FMIC + Milltek at the same time :D
