New Fabia vRS or 2nd hand Golf GTI

Featured Replies

VAG are really bad on accepting and publicly admitting to Engine Design and Parts Failures.

Luckily they are now Replacing Twincharger Engines quickly when they are the ones with High Oil Consumption problems before the first ones reach the end of the 3 Year Manufactures Warranty in the UK.

(July)

They certainly are a car that the majority of buyers should avoid if they do not have a Warranty on them.

it was and is Plug Failures, Coil Failures, Piston Rings, and general poor Build Quality of those engines.

A good Built one is a fine thing tho.

Funnily even those Strengthened and Upgraded for the power engines get Snagging Faults

  • Even with a Cool Car out of Manufacturers Warranty, you might want a Warranty of some kind when splashing 15 grand or more Maybe more so than others when it is VAG Vehicles! http://www.autoexpre...

  • I had the same quandry and bought a 4 year old S3. I understand the owners of the vRS defending their purchases. It's only the ones that have had nothing but trouble with theirs who will publicly c

Simple decision based on what matters to you.

Warranty, get the Fabia.

Everything else, get the Golf. It's a far better car.

Me personally would buy the golf but the fabia is a good car,as others said try both & see which you like best.

GTD, that will be like a Golf GTI but with a Diesel.

Like in the Advert

Looks like a Golf, because it is a Golf, just not a Golf GTI.

So really just more practical than actually Cool then.

still looks massively better than a Fabia

So why did you buy 2 skodas after defecting to Honda for x years :bandit:

Mistake Andy

still looks massively better than a Fabia

Hmmmm. What if (like me) you like 'ugly' cars ;) ?

At the end of the day I do 5.000 (max) miles a year - I could have bought the Golf (undoubtably a better car) but It's not what I need. An equivalent Golf in terms of age and mileage would've been a helluva lot more money (talking several grand) - yes, in percentage terms it would have held its value better, but in £ depreciation I don't reckon there'd be much of a difference (before you factor in the extra insurance, less MPG and higher road tax...).

Good night.

There is no doubt that the vRS is not 'pretty', in my eyes or many others,

but i bothered to read the OP.

"i love the look and the small dimensions of the Fabia ",

that's what many of us consider, the look & small dimensions,

or

just the small dimensions and light weight if you could not care less about how a car looks outside,

when inside and driving it,

that, and the fun factor.

Its going to be a Mini for me next, Diesel, Automatic & a Van, (Clubvan)

Leather, sports suspension, the lot for £17,000.

Fugly and impractical, but possibly fun.

(For my future Nail & Tanning Business, or maybe Dog Grooming, not Dogging!.)

My grandfather had an original Mini van (1972 model) - only 848cc but I loved sitting in the back of it as a bairn - you wouldn't get away with that these days :) (he'd laid a carpet in the back for 'comfort').

'Pretty' cars are for hairdressers ;)

comments like that are for the insecure :D

anyway, it's not about 'pretty', the Fabia just looks too tall and narrow

LOL,

That is not an Optical illusion. It is tall & narrow.

Suits OAP's and those that could not care less about Tall & Narrow.

A bit like those that do not worry about getting waved down because they look like they are driving a 'Private Hire Car'. (Or just a family member with a suitable car taking the bridesmaids to the church.)

"i love the look and small dimensions of the Fabia." that was the OP.

I like it and I'm a convert - I was avowedly anti MKII until I test drove one. To me it's 'quirky'.

You have a minicab as your avatar and I like them as well - one of them took me home last night.

The big thing for me is i know quite possibly the most uncoolest man in the world!

57 years old, wears socks with sandles, unbelievably uncool, drives peugoets with hubcaps!

After about 5 peugoets goes out and buys a monte carlo!

Enough said

I thought everyone in D&G wore socks with sandals? It's still 1973 there.

All this bickering isnt helping the op is it. :wall:

He's Welsh!

He's Welsh!

The Welsh are good lads, they don't have to try to be 'cool'.

I know, but it's fun :D.

Fair point - I'm out.

is it bickering, I kinda thought it was just messing about. how can anyone advise the OP which car to like more? and yes, I do indeed have a pic of what should be a taxi as my avatar

It may be ugly , it may be fragile, it may have the wrong badge on the front but the Fabia VRS is FUN and yes way more fun than a Golf

Mine makes me smile every time I drive it , and yes I have had Golf GTI's but the sad fact is that they have engineered a lot of the fun out of it

For those that want the VW Build Quality & the looks of the Golf GTI if you squint, there is the Polo GTI.

Same possible Engine problems from the Twincharger Engine and more expensive,

not more Fun in my opinion. but its is a VW, so probably cool. Some might think Classy.

This refusing to acknowledge faults is not VAG its a german trait try buying a bmw m/c and you will see, i have a dozen or so and some of the known faults take them years to accept.

Not just German , look at what's happening with Japanese cars at the moment !
