What optional extras to add to Elegance

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've just agreed a spec with a dealer and was just wondering what your thoughts are. Build date is a bit away so I can still make changes.

The spec so far:

Skoda Octavia Elegance 1.6 Diesel

- Candy White

- 70% Tint rear, 30% Tint front

- Golus 18" Alloys

- Chrome Package

- LED rear Lights

- Front Isofix

- Interior footwell light front & rear

- Tyre pressure warning

- Heated Seats front

- Heated windscreen

- Hill Hold control

- Debadge

I'm coming from a 2011 Octavia Elegance 2.0 Diesel - I'm really concerned about the power loss, should I be?

Finally i would love to lose the "wood effect" interior and replace with a black or brushed steel, is this possible? I just hate any wood finish.

if you are concerned about the power loss, why not specify the 2.0 engine for a few hundred quid more?

It's a little shy of €2K this side of the pond in pricing. Decided to spec up instead.

In the UK you have to specify the wood effect as a cost option on the Elegance, so I can't see why you couldn't ask for it to be omitted .

I would not worry about "missing" power , with the 1.6 diesel.

Anyway get her "tweeked",(re-mapped?) then got the best of both worlds

Cheers

The dealer went through the ordering system and no where could he find the option to change the effect. I almost walked away from purchasing the car as a result. I hate fake wood so so much. Any direction where to go here?

Yea, it's what I plan to do. Previous engines takes the mapping fairly well. Do you know anyone that has it done?

The previous generation 1.6 has only recently been cracked, the results are 135-ish bhp, so a decent increase.

That doesn't mean this 1.6 is mappable just yet though.

I'm looking at the Torque figures more than the BHP gain...

When ordering my Elegance last month they were just after introducing the option of going for the brushed silver finish over the wood effect. I immediately jumped at it!

I'd be careful! Re-map the ECU and in all probability say bye bye to the warranty. Far better to get the 2.0 diesel in the first place. In every road test that (in particular) Autocaor have conducted on Audi, Seat, Skoda and VW Golf they have levied heavy criticism of the 1.6 diesel and it's 5 speed gearbox. If budget is an issue I would personally leave off expensive optional extras such as Columbus sat nav to get the basic car right.

Genuinely puzzled.

Wor 1.6 TDI got the DSG and once launched is a absolute proper "hoot"

I could not fault it in ANY way.

Plus having driven an ould 1.9TDI of 1998 vintage with a 5 speed gear box, which again I absolutly could not fault.

An the 1.6 TDI being a direct replacment for the venerable 1.9 TDI ( barring a` missing 5HP in a much lighter more aerodynamic car)

Why do they pick fault?

Cheers

Personally, I've come to the conclusion that the journalists are spoilt for power in most cars they get to drive. I've driven the octy 3 1.6 Tdi dsg and thought it was great. Also, I don't see why they slate it for the 5 speed box other than others have six. It's torquey enough to move with five decently long legged ratios and five is the equivalent of sixth in the six speeders so they still cruise very nicely IMO. Sure, I was running loaded up a lot of the time I'd opt for the 2.0 Tdi (which I do, so I will if going diesel) but I didn't think there was anything really lacking with the 1.6 dsg! :)

In Autocar's opinion - not mine so don't shoot the messenger - most modern small capacity diesels have a 6 speed 'box to help the comparative lack of power and torque, and the 1.6 engine in combination with the 5 speed box turns the Octavia into "a bit of a plodder" . They say that this power train is not good in any of the latest VW Group cars so equipped although they did state in the Octavia's road test that the Skoda is not the worse offender.
