2004 Red Fabia vRS Spares or repair

Featured Replies

Hi all,

The time has come to sell what has been without doubt been my favouite car so far.

I bought this 2004 Red Fabia vRS in 2009, I am the second owner and it was recorded CAT D when I took ownership, however had been fully repaired. It had just over 40,000 miles on the clock at the time and to be honest I was that impressed with the car I didnt look to much in to the CAT D other than the fact the garage informed me it had been in the middle of an accident causing damage to front and rear bumpers which had been repaired.

It has now covered 93830 miles, and other than a couple of normal wear and tear issues has never let me down, always started first turn of the key, warmed up, cooled down etc. The only reason I am selling is because as it got to MOT time at the start of April I was in a position to buy a new car, so did and the Fabia is now redundant.

So Bad points first -

Recorded Cat D

No MOT

No TAX - Declared SORN

Needs 2 front tyres

Clutch starting to slip when last driven ( 2 months ago )

Crack to front fog ( Passed previous MOT with this )

Small hole in driver seat bolster.

some marks to paintwork/wheels etc although in generally good condition for age

No service history but lots of reciepts

Electric windows seem a bit hit and miss for some reason

Had lots of stone chips to bonnet, touched up but still obvious .

Boot lid seems to have dropped slightly and catches on top of rear bumper.

Faded rear spoiler

Good points -

93830 miles

Cambelt/waterpump changed last year ( unsure of milage but would say within last 15000 miles and can check if required )

Interior in pretty good condition apart from previously mentioned hole in bolster

Bodywork generally very good, no major marks dents etc, but please dont expect perfection.

Good runner.

Power steering Pump and rack changed last year.

Always been my pride and joy despite CAT D marker.

Im no mechanic so couldnt say what it will need to get through MOT, at a guess I would only think front tyres, with clutch probably needing changing soon although dont think it would fail the MOT on that?

Ive have no intention of breaking this car, I dont have the skills, time, tools or space to do so! I have tried to be has honest as possible and am hoping someone may want this as either a project to repair, or to break for part themselves/to sell on etc

I am going to try and attach pictures now although couldnt get it to work on my first attempt! If it doesnt sell on here I will be putting it on ebay.

£1400 ono based in Bromsgrove , Worcestershire

Probably one of the cheapest vRS Fabias out there  and without really that much wrong with it.

Cheers mate, hopefully will appeal to someone with the time/knowledge to either make something of it or make some money out of it.

Would it not be better to get it through an MOT if it only needs two tyres?

Worst case scenario it fails and you get a failure sheet showing exactly what does need doing, rather than the buyer getting an unknown project?

I had thought of that, however with it not currently being taxed, insured etc I thought I'd price it low with room for negotiation with a view to selling as it is. If it doesn't sell then I might well go that route.

Cheers

I am trying not to crap your thread, but the problem is that it's priced low.

Which tends to make people think it needs a fair amount of work for an MOT, otherwise you'd do it yourself.

I've lost count of the number of cars for sale I've seen that say they need very little work for an MOT.

I always wonder if it's true why they don't do it rather than lose more money...

Please take this as constructive critisicm, not having a go. :)

It is cheap and could be a good car for someone, but with no MOT or failure sheet it's a bit of an unknown quantity so you need a buyer willing to take a gamble on your word it's that good.

Constructive criticism always welcome! I do see your point and will look in to options around towing it to MOT station.

I have tried to be as honest as possible with it and priced it low accordingly, however I totally see your point about the risk element and as I said, I am no mechanic, so there may well be things that I don't know of.

I agree with Richard, not wanting to swamp this thread, but a list of things needed for an MoT, even if you don't get them fixed would make it much easier to sell.

No need to tow to an MoT station.

Tax is not needed providing you're driving to and from a pre-booked MoT appointment and you're insured. If you don't currently have insurance, you could always get a day policy just to get it there and back.

I've just done a quick quote for mine, and for 1 day cover RAC will do it for £26.

Cheers for your advice guys, will have a look in to getting it MoT'd as does make sense, however am happy to take reasonable offers in the mean time if anyone is intrested.

Kirk

will be interested if moted

or at least have fail sheet so ill know whats need to be done

PM'd

I think the asking price is fair considering it's a Cat D.

Wouldn't be worth much more with an mot I'd have thought.

Cheers Mr Ree, I agree however can see the benefit of one from the suggestions.

All PM's replied. I have had some decent offers as it is, and a company who break cars have offered me an amount which isnt far off what I'm asking for.

Kirk
