Well it says in the first post it was a Garmin nüvi 2545LMT. I've just ordered one so I hope that's right!

Yes but im not talking to the guy in the first post am I?  Robs post is a different way of installing one so any garmin could be used in his method as its removable so doesn't need to be a slim model.

That looks great that Rob. Havnt had a Garmin before but about to get one for christmas. What size, model did you use and did that self adhesive disc and holder come with the sat nav?

Also it looks like there are electrical connectors in the base of the holder on that photo. does the mount hard wire in and just slotting the satnav in the holder power it up?

That is a Garmin Nuvi 3760T.  The mount and the self-adhesive disc all come in the box.

Yes, power lead goes into the mount, so you clip the unit in and it takes power from the connectors on the mount.

Reason i chose the 3760T was 'cos it boot up/shuts down with the ignition if you wire it into a switched live (other garmins may also do that too btw) and it auto changes from day to night colours - effectively it's a close as you can get to OEM operation.

Worked very well - i had that setup for a couple of yrs on the 2010 vRS.  My current car (2012 vRS) i retro fitted a columbus :)

I've fitted a Garmin in the dash box as per the original post. I wanted a hinge that would give a bigger surface area for the adhesion to the lid. I came up with cutting up  an old VHS box hinge to the length of the Garmin. I used sticky double sided foam pads (lots of them) to stick it to the Garmin  and the lid. Seems to work well you can't see the hinge once in place.  It's nice and thin and you can customise the surface area of the hinge. I cut up a box just like this:

Hi There!

Im looking at doing this to my Nuvi 2699 on my Mk2. While it fits perfectly im worried if I hide the TRAFFIC / POWER CABLE behind the dash it wont pick up the traffic alert signal from the power lead

Any advice anyone?

I did this too. My Garmin still picks up the traffic signal in the dash, but I think the Garmin traffic data has been next to useless.

Proper mint idea, may have a go at this myself

Oh is it? Ive never really used it as it was an xmas present - but its a good unit with features etc

But its a fab idea to hide the unit as described here :)

Im defo going to do it

When I did it, my traffic alerts worked fine.  The dash is only plastic so I'm guessing that it doesn't attenuate the signal much.

as above - when i had my cables running under the dash the traffic info reception worked fine.
