  • Since when do you need to justify buying an estate? It's more practical, there are no downsides, and my personal opinion is that the Octavia simply looks better as an estate. The hatchback is a bit fr

  • I've met BMW drivers that are envious of my boot and I've jut got the hatch. A few were in the process of switching to Skoda. The ultimate driving machine is feck all use if the pram won't fit.

  • I asked my dogs and they both said that they enjoyed looking out of the side windows in the estate and that the back window was easier to look through.

Practicality-wise = estate/wagon

Looks AND mostly practicality-wise = hatch

Ofcourse I'm being biased.....

That's a cow in a dog costume!

I have a definitive answer. I was out shopping with the wife earlier today  and was walking away from my hatch, when an identical Blackline estate pulled up a few spaces along from mine - any doubts that I had about my choice of hatch over estate went at that point. The dogs will just have to duck down a bit :giggle:

I have 2 dogs, a cocker spaniel and a lab/retriever cross and they have plenty of room in my estate but I suspect they would have similar space in a hatch.

However

What I like most about my black estate is that it is a very good Q car and I remember one of the motoring magazines (Evo I think) doing an article on Q cars and the Vrs estate was included along with the Audi S4 Saloon, Insignia VRX Tourer, BMW 550i, Jaguar XJ Supersport.

Go for the estate, I can fit an entire ambulances worth of kit in my boot

Isn't that a bit strange letting a horse live in your house?

Seems that those who need 1 go for the estate,

Those that don't go for the hatch

I'm not so sure. I'd always have the estate.......the hatch looks a bit too much like a mid 1990's Vectra for my liking.

Ha ha. I'm an estate man too! Not a fan of the hatch full stop.

But, each to their own!

The pre FL hatch looked great, but the facelift totally unbalanced the cars proportions unless viewed head on or rear on. The estate is more balanced, but let's be honest it's no looker. That is it's attraction to me, the Q car thing: looks **** but isn't. Ironically, the opposite of an A4 TDi.
