fun rear seats

Featured Replies

hiya guys

just a quick question

had my fun since december and now wanna pull my seats out but dont know how as ive never done it before

can any1 help me :)

Hi dil1986, hope you're still enjoying the Fun! Now the weathers allegedly improving it's time to throw open the back. Inside around the centre you'll see the locking popper, so just unlock & then from the outside gently pull up the black handle to release the locking/retaining mechanism. Once released lift & pull back the rear section in one motion and that will secure into the retaining lugs forward of the rear turrets. Now it's a case of pulling up/back the rear bench part of the seat & positioning to snug fit. Bingo, in my case you're now exposed to elements and prepare for free hair re-styling!!

Just be careful as if you haven't activated for a while it's likely to be tight/stiff. Work the external release handle gently & be patient as the last thing you need is a broken handle/mechanism! Once open etc lubricate the exposed parts of the locks & the hinged levers at the base of the rear door. Reasonably frequent use will help keep things moving more easily.

Just need that sun to keep shining! ;)

Assuming you haven't got a faulty mechanism, you'll be amazed how tight/stiff the rear door can be & this is exaggerated by longer periods of not being used!!

Try it as a two man job, one person operating the handle & at the same time the other trying to ease open by using the cross bar spanning the back. It may take a while & better that than breaking something! Also make sure it's definitely unlocked from the inside, mine is down for unlock & pull up to lock!

ok will try that :) let u knw how i get on

The lock works backwards by the way: you push down to unlock and lift to lock. Still caught me out after a year or so! ;)

Yep, reverse thinking!

ill show you tomorrow mate if you need a hand

You can see the guy in this vid do it:

im more of a one handed man from the side rear door opener ,

^ Yep it is easier to pop into the back & open centrally. Another tip, when you close up make sure you have a window/door open as it helps to displace the air in the cabin & hence avoid the resistance of compression. ;)

Mine got stuck in the "open" position last year. Fortunately I normally reverse it into an old shed with just the bonnet poking out. An outdoor beanbag is also handy to lay over the open gap to stop any rain drops (leaky shed roof) or owl waste (either end) from dropping in. It saves having to close-up overnight and is quicker than a tonneau which I haven't got anyway.

I now keep a pointy tool (set of 4 from Aldi or Lidl) permanently in the cab to push any reluctant catches down and give them a bit of grease/WD40 every so often.

Hi & welcome. Yes the seat is designed to lock in place onto the retaining mounts.

However I've had problems with this in the past & especially when it's remained shut for some time! The other aspect can be deterioration of the small circular plastic clips/covers mounted on the bracket bars that receive the rear door locks. Mine is showing some reluctance at the moment & providing you haven't got a faulty mechanism then more often than not it's a case of lubrication combined with operation to restore securing. Do this first however before driving around with rear passengers!

Some piccy's would be nice :)  ;)

thanks I have managed to lock them into place. although I think I may need two new locks.

Assuming you can release them it may just be lack of operation that can be rectified with some routine maintenance, or is there more to it than this!?

the locks are in a bad state it looks like they are repairable. as the seats go into place the locks normally go round and have a clip to stop them opening, its these clips that need to be replaced.

The locks have a weird plastic over them. as a 'make do' until you can get replacements that are not bashed/worn you may be able to cut off a lot of this plastic and free up the mechanism a bit.

(this helped on my old fun, but beware that there is no way to undo this except buying new lock mechanisms)

I went to the scrap yard and picked two door locks up from a 1.3 Felicia. put them on and it locks into place perfectly.

thanks guys

  ;)

Well done, good thinking. A few years ago mine jammed in the open position and I just had to take the back panel apart and generally lubricate things. I think a bit of regular use plus general lubrication of the obvious bits helps a lot.

The other bit that has given trouble on mine is the catch on the tailgate, which can seize. Again it was just a matter of taking the back off the tailgate and lubricating the obvious bits.
