so there is two

Really? A litre? I check mine about the same frequency (sometimes longer) but it doesn't budge. My Audi and Octy II used to drink it but this doesn't, hardly moves at all. Service agent was very surprised.

My 06 Passat PD140 used to drink about a litre of oil every 6k so needed 2 top ups between 18k services. The CR 170 Berb is much more stable, I have never had to top up in 88k miles, so must be honest, starting to get lazy about checking oil levels now, but only as the car has proved it's self over miles of ownership!

I found it instructive and a little worrying that when my Greenline was delivered new it came with a litre of oil in that special little zip up bag. None of my other new cars ever came with top up oil from new, but then again they did not have 20k service intervals.

same here and i too am on variable servicing

Re Audi and no dip stick, that sucks because you could over fill it with oil and pressurise the crankcase and then get an oil leak as a result of over filling

Just to clarify - you still can check your oil level. You get a graphical representation of your dipstick on the display unit. There is also an 'overfill' warning should you put too much in.

My gripe was that for a few quid they could have put a dipstick in, just as a back up / verification.

Had a Renault 21 back in the 80's and when you turned on the ignition it displayed the oil level, mind you the whole display was digital!
