I was checking the oil earlier on and noticed a little box on the other side of the engine bay, i opened it up and found it has two fuse boxes, didn't know this, did you?

well i had no reason to read the manual as currently there is nothing wrong with it

I think most cars have two nowadays

Thing is with cars these days, by reading the manual you will probably find out something about your car that is useful / you didn't know.

E.g. it has 2 x fuse boxes ;)

I generally don't read them straight away but have read the last couple cover to cover, sad I know, but in a funny way I enjoyed it :)

999pooch.

I'm sad as well.

I must be sad as well....but then again, it is a legal requirement to be fully conversant with the controls in your car before you need to use them....i am sure it is the highway code somewhere...sect 97 maybe?

Granted you may not need to know where your second fuse box is on the move, but certainly the driver operated functions of any new car should be read about and understood.

I wonder where the expression 'RTFM' came from . . . .

I always read the manual (I'm fairly boring) but I've found the Superb manual is not the best. A revisit often helps -today I discovered how to tilt the sunroof! Only had the car two months doh!

Although I have not read the wiring diagram those are all 'meaty' fuses and relays, so I am guessing they are all related to the glow plugs, fuel pump and starter ? You would want them in the engine compartment for convenience and also because they may generate a small amount of heat

oh yes wayne, oil is one of the most crucial fluids in a cars engine along with water and antifreeze, always check it regularly, i check mine about 3 times a week, don't be one of those people who wait for the oil light to come on, its only there to tell you that you are nearly bone dry of oil, and by that time most of the damage has been done, and don't count on warranty will cover these silly mistakes either cause when you take it to the garage a trained mechanic can tell if it has been running low on oil by worn parts ETC, and the car could spring a oil leak anyways, always check the oil Wayne could save you a load of money and grief.

VW Group engines have a reputation for burning a small amount of oil and I check mine every month. It gets through about a litre between services.

That has to be a candidate for 'camp quote of the year'.

Graham Norton has already bowed out :D

Really? A litre? I check mine about the same frequency (sometimes longer) but it doesn't budge. My Audi and Octy II used to drink it but this doesn't, hardly moves at all. Service agent was very surprised.

Strange enuff my courtesy car Audi engine oil light just come on! Eeek!

Just rang the car hire company - they gona come and top it up :-)

Mine has done just over 14k since new and the oil level has not changed (so that it is noticeable anyway).

Had fun with Audi - neither me nor the guy who came to top up the oil can find the dip stick! Eeek.

It transpires the Audi only uses the car computer to display the oil level!

Wonder if any Skoda has this setup too?

Sorry for digressing, Denis!

This is the same on my S4. However you can order the dipstick as the dipstick chamber is still present on the engine, just capped off.

I'm getting one put back on mine as I trust the old fashioned way more. However the display method is handy for quick checks :)

I wonder where the exp<b></b>ression 'RTFM' came from . . . .

We actually used use this as a fault code, I was a photocopier engineer many years ago.

Oh the joy oh trying to explain to people it went wrong because the didn't read the manual and you will be charged :)

Sorry about going off topic.
