Turning off Parking Sensors

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a method to disable the rear parking sensors on my 1.4 16V Elegance. I have looked in the fuse list and there doesn't appear to be a specific one for the parking sensors, so I assume they're shared with something else (reversing lights maybe?)

Does anyone have any ideas? Is there maybe some way of doing it with VCDS? Or a control module I could unplug somewhere?

Thanks in advance :hi:

Pretty sure that parking sensors aren't a standard or optional extra on the fabia anyways which may mean someone has installed and after market kit.

I believe most aftermarket kits draw from the reverse bulb since it's close by. Maybe have a look at your rear light bulb clusters and see if there's a cheeky additional wire spliced in.

I'm pretty sure parking sensors are standard factory fit on Elegance trim.

On my Elegance I was able to adjust the volume of the reverse sensor beeps with VCDS (so mine are not 3rd party)......the standard beep was way too loud on mine. I didn't notice an option to disable them, but I'll have a look over the weekend......it should certainly be possible at least to reduce the volume of the beeps on your car.....perhaps it's possible to reduce the volume to zero.

How many sensors are on the bumper 3 or 4?

There's 4 sensors on my bumper.

Definitely original fit on the Elegance (4 sensors).

Sounds promising if the volume can be adjusted - my real reason for doing it is that mine are quite temperamental and although I will fix them eventually I'd like to get rid of the loud warning tone which is an unwelcome reminder that something is broken every time I engage reverse. Hopefully turning the volume down would turn the warning down, but possibly not . . .

Pull out the connection to the speaker?

Just been out to have a look at this. The volume can be adjusted in 76-Park Assist-adaptations in VCDS. You can also view the output of each sensor which would make it really easy to diagnose a faulty sensor.

It is possible to adjust the volume of the bleep between 1 and 10. Unfortunately it's not possible to adjust the volume to 0. Volume setting 1 is a lot quieter than standard, but I suspect still loud enough to be annoying if you are getting a constant warning tone. This adjustment seems to adjust the warning tone too.......I get a single warning bleep when I engage reverse, and this was quieter when I lowered the volume.

I tried finding a way to turn it off completely. There is no obvious way to do this as far as I could see, but It is possible to adjust the coding of the reverse sensor to specify that a tow bar is fitted. I tried this assuming the sensor would be disabled but it didn't have any effect.....the sensor just worked as normal.....perhaps you need trailer electrics installed which when plugged in, inhibits the sensors with this coding applied. But I'm not sure.

As for unplugging the reverse bleeper itself......in theory this seems a good answer. But it seems to be in the dash somewhere.......maybe behind the radio. So if you can find it without having to completely dismantle the interior, it's worth a shot!

on the octavia's with factory sensors the unit is in the rear tucked up behind the carpet in the 1/4 panel (usually in os but not always) and I think the same on the fabias, just find it and unplug it and all is quiet again. no fuse as it draws from the rev bulb .

Thanks for having a look booke23 :)

As for the location of the speaker . . . I've spent some time sitting in the car, putting it in reverse and trying to work out where the sound is coming from. It's not in the rear, it's not in either of the front footwells . . . it's not behind the radio either surprising, because removing the drawer and putting my ear up to the space makes it sound duller if anything. It's either higher up in the dash or it's above the headlining . . . my search, as they say . . goes on!

No problem!

Might also be worth pursuing what felicia16v said, and looking for a control module somewhere in the boot area that could be unplugged.

I thought the speaker is in the B pillar, if it is an aftermarket kit it may well be in the boot with the control box.

I think you're right!

I'm just back from driving it, and I spent a minute trying to locate where the sound is coming from with the reverse sensors beeping. I'm 95% certain the bleeper is located up in or behind the interior light! I took the lens off the light and there is nothing to see......you'd have to take a screwdriver to it to see more, but when I covered it up with my hand it definitely muffled the sound.

On the Skoda dealer fit kit I bought once... It said to install the bleeper in/on the trim the goes across the back of the roof, above the rear head rests.. It also came with the wiring too hook into the reverse light circuit...

I know this is an old thread but to answer what seemed to go unanswered, the speaker/ bleeper is accessed by removing the front centre interior light assembly (lens alone unclips then two screws let you remove the housing- it’s quite snug and almost clipped into the headliner too).

There is both a flat little square black box to the rear of the housing (I hazard a guess it’s the sensor for the remote locking) and off to the passenger side a little is the speaker for the parking sensors. Mine being an Elegance fabia 1. I don’t know if it is also a warning buzzer for anything else.

My parking sensors gave up over the weekend and indeed the bleep telling you all isn’t well is loud and annoying when you select reverse.
